The role of a General Housekeeper (Day Shift) at APL embodies the spirit of teamwork, professionalism, and meticulous attention to detail. This position is critical in creating and maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work environment across the lab's facilities. As a member of a committed housekeeping team, you will collaborate with partners throughout the lab to provide outstanding cleaning services essential to the operational success of APL. The day shift runs from 5:40 AM to 2:00 PM Monday through Friday, reflecting the routine schedule suited to ensure cleanliness during active lab hours.

The General Housekeeper is responsible for a variety of cleaning tasks including sweeping, scrubbing, mopping hardwood, laminate, or tiled floors, dusting and polishing furniture and room accessories, and disposing of trash and recyclable materials responsibly. Maintaining sanitary restroom facilities by cleaning sinks, basins, showers, and toilets is crucial to uphold health standards. Additionally, cleaning windows, glass surfaces, mirrors, and counters to pristine condition contributes to the professional atmosphere within APL.

Beyond routine cleaning, the role involves upkeep and maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies, ensuring products are stored safely and used efficiently. Vacuuming and carpet cleaning duties demand the ability to operate specialized carpet maintenance equipment. Adherence to APL’s health and safety policies is mandatory to safeguard not only the individual housekeeper but the entire laboratory environment.

This position requires a candidate who is physically capable of performing the demanding duties of the job including lifting up to 30 pounds, standing for long periods, and moving through various postures during the daily routine. Experience in customer service is valued alongside the ability to follow both verbal and written instructions in English. Given the secure nature of the facility, U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is a requirement to access APL’s facilities and networks.
