Job Description
The Providence Foundation of San Francisco is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to providing essential services and support to vulnerable populations, including individuals and families in need of housing and shelter. Operating within the vibrant city of San Francisco, this organization focuses on creating safe, welcoming, and sanitary environments that promote dignity and well-being for its guests. Located at the Oasis Family Shelter, the foundation plays a critical role in addressing homelessness and housing instability by operating residential shelters staffed by professionals who ensure that all facility operations run smoothly and effectively.
This full-time Housekeeper and Janitorial Maintenance Technician position offers an hourly wage ranging from $20.00 to $35.00, reflecting the organization's commitment to competitive and fair compensation. As a non-exempt role, this position emphasizes a hands-on approach to facility maintenance and cleanliness, crucial in maintaining the safety and comfort of all residents, staff, and visitors at the shelter.
The Housekeeper and Janitorial Maintenance Technician is not only responsible for traditional cleaning duties but also takes on essential maintenance tasks. This includes a wide range of activities such as cleaning guest rooms, restrooms, offices, kitchens, and other common areas, managing laundry services, and supporting minor facility repair and upkeep. The role demands a high level of operational awareness, with employees expected to identify and report maintenance issues, adhere to safety and sanitation standards, and collaborate closely with shelter leadership and maintenance personnel.
Individuals in this position must be proficient in using cleaning chemicals and equipment safely in accordance with OSHA standards, reflecting the role’s strong emphasis on workplace health and safety. They also maintain guest confidentiality and professionalism, given the sensitive nature of working within a residential shelter setting.
By contributing to room turnover preparations and supporting preventative maintenance and emergency cleanups, this role supports the shelter’s goal of quick and efficient guest services. The position offers a unique opportunity for candidates experienced or interested in shelter environments, residential facilities, or supportive housing to make a meaningful impact while developing their skills in both housekeeping and facility maintenance.
Providence Foundation of San Francisco is firmly committed to equal employment opportunity and maintaining a work environment free from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. The organization complies fully with federal, California, and San Francisco employment laws, ensuring fair treatment and support for all employees. This role is ideal for someone reliable, professional, and capable of working independently or collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced shelter environment.
