Job Description
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) stands as a premier institution dedicated to education, research, and clinical excellence. A leading healthcare organization within Arkansas, UAMS is committed to fostering collaboration and diversity, aimed at enhancing patient care and making a positive impact on the health and lives of the Arkansan community. As a respected academic medical center, UAMS provides a supportive and inclusive workplace environment that values teamwork, innovation, and professional growth. This esteemed establishment serves a wide range of healthcare and academic needs, emphasizing a patient-centered approach alongside groundbreaking research and education.
UAMS is currently hiring for a temporary Skilled Labor position within the Campus Life department, specifically housekeeping/floor technician roles. This temporary role will last from May to August and focuses primarily on maintaining cleanliness and floor care within residence halls during the crucial summer months when students vacate and return. This opportunity is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience in facility maintenance and housekeeping in a dynamic and structured setting tied to an important academic institution.
The position offers a day shift schedule and a salary of $15 per hour. It is important to note this is a fixed-term employment opportunity, not eligible for sponsorship, and does not provide benefits eligibility. Essential duties include detailed cleaning and refinishing of floors, maintaining both living and common areas, and supporting the housekeeping team to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming residential environment for students returning in the fall. The role demands physical activity such as standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions frequently, making physical stamina a key requirement.
This role is designed for candidates with a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of related housekeeping, hospitality, or facility maintenance experience. Preferred candidates would have up to two years of vocational training or practical experience in floor care, including tasks such as stripping, waxing, and buffing floors. The Campus Life housekeeping/floor technician role at UAMS provides an opportunity to work within a supportive university system committed to diversity and professional development, even though this temporary position is not benefits-eligible. Applicants will undergo pre-employment screening, including background checks and substance abuse testing, as part of UAMS's commitment to workplace safety and security.
UAMS upholds equal opportunity employment principles and does not discriminate on protected bases including race, gender, age, disability, and more, in adherence to federal and state laws. The university provides excellent benefits for eligible positions, highlighting medical, dental, vision plans, retirement contributions, life insurance, education discounts, and career training opportunities. While this temporary job does not include benefits, UAMS overall offers a rewarding work atmosphere filled with opportunities for growth and community impact. This opening closes on August 5, 2026, and interested candidates should apply via the University of Arkansas System Career Site. For further inquiries about recruitment, candidates are encouraged to contact the human resources team at UAMS via email for assistance and guidance throughout the hiring process.
