Established over 200 years ago, the Center operates as the principal teaching hospital affiliated with the Tufts University School of Medicine. This affiliation drives a culture deeply rooted in academic excellence, teamwork, and continual growth, making Tufts Medical Center a pivotal institution in New England’s healthcare landscape. The hospital is dedicated to providing superior health services across a wide range of specialties and is known for integrating compassionate care with the latest medical advancements. With a vibrant team of dedicated healthcare professionals and support staff, the Center fosters an environment that prioritizes patient safety, cleanliness, and overall satisfaction.
Joining Tufts Medical Center as an Environmental Services Aide offers the unique opportunity to be part of this dynamic organization where supporting the health and safety of patients, visitors, and staff through environmental cleanliness is paramount. Environmental Services Aides are essential team members who focus on maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the hospital. This role is available in full-time and part-time positions, covering multiple shifts including day shift (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM), evening shift (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM), and mid shift (11:00 AM - 7:30 PM). The Environmental Services team works closely with clinical and operational departments to ensure the highest standards of infection prevention, sanitation, and patient care are consistently met.
The position involves performing essential cleaning tasks in patient rooms, offices, clinics, and public areas under close supervision. This includes dusting, disinfecting surfaces, managing waste disposal including hazardous materials, replenishing supplies, and making beds following patient discharge or transfer. The role requires the operation of various heavy-duty cleaning equipment such as wet vacuums, floor machines, and auto scrubbers, ensuring comprehensive environmental hygiene standards. Working in this capacity, aides contribute to the hospital’s infection control efforts, which is vital in a healthcare facility to protect vulnerable patients from health risks. The ability to follow instructions, work efficiently in a team-oriented environment, and maintain attention to detail are critical for success in this role.
Tufts Medical Center values the contributions of Environmental Services Aides and supports their professional development with comprehensive training, onboarding, and opportunities for career growth within the healthcare environment. The work atmosphere is collaborative, supportive, and inclusive, reflecting the Center’s commitment to creating a respectful and empowering workplace. The role is an excellent entry point for individuals seeking a meaningful career in healthcare support services, especially those looking to make a tangible impact on patient care through environmental safety and cleanliness.
