The role demands a combination of traditional housekeeping excellence coupled with modern organizational skills. The appointed Housekeeper will be entrusted with managing daily household cleaning and upkeep, handling laundry and ironing including fine linens and household fabrics, and managing kitchen and dining areas with light meal preparation duties such as making simple meals and snacks. Additionally, the Housekeeper will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the home's existing organizational systems, conducting errands such as grocery shopping and post office visits, and coordinating vendor services to ensure the smooth running of the household. They will work alongside a twice-monthly professional cleaning team that performs deep cleaning, allowing the Housekeeper to focus on routine maintenance and personalized care.

This position offers more than just standard housekeeping tasks; it involves a deep engagement with the home’s unique needs, from caring for antiques and fine art pieces to managing household linens and delicate materials like silver, crystal, marble, and fine china. The retiring current housekeeper will assist during the transition period, especially with pet care responsibilities involving the family’s small dogs, ensuring continuity and a supportive handover.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with at least five years of demonstrated experience in high-end residential housekeeping. Verifiable references and exceptional attention to detail are critical, as is comprehensive knowledge of fabric care, stain removal, ironing, steaming, and managing dry cleaning. The successful applicant must be highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of anticipating the household's evolving needs, contributing to a well-ordered and pristine environment. The role also requires comfort with light meal preparation and an ability to follow and maintain cleaning schedules developed with the household principals. Excellent communication skills in English and a professional, discreet demeanor are foundational to success in this role.

The work schedule is Monday through Friday with preferred start times ranging from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., offering some flexibility to accommodate the family’s needs. There may also be occasions requiring overnight stays when Mrs. Lehr travels frequently with their pets, so openness to these needs is essential. Compensation ranges from $45 to $55 per hour, commensurate with experience, and qualified candidates will be provided with a comprehensive benefits package.
