Job Description

Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the mobility and independence of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Located in San Rafael, California, GDB has established itself as the largest guide dog school in North America since its founding in 1942. The organization has successfully graduated more than 16,000 guide dog teams across the U.S. and Canada, profoundly impacting the lives of its clients by enabling safe and confident navigation through their environments. GDB is not only focused on improving mobility but also strives to promote inclusivity and equal opportunity for all. The organization values diversity and fosters a work environment where employees and clients from all backgrounds feel respected and appreciated. GDB employs a dedicated team of over 300 professionals who share a commitment to the organization's life-changing mission.

The role of Housekeeper at Guide Dogs for the Blind involves contributing meaningfully to this mission by maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming living environment for students in residence at GDB's San Rafael campus. This full-time position operates on a day shift schedule, Thursday through Monday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, offering a consistent and structured workday. As a Housekeeper, you will be responsible for a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks across dormitories, offices, and student rooms. Your work will ensure that all common areas and private spaces are kept sanitary and orderly, adhering to hygiene and safety standards that respect the needs and privacy of the residents.

In addition to general housekeeping duties, the position involves managing supplies, linens, and assisting with meal preparation and service when required. The role demands a high level of reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while also collaborating with the team. Housekeepers at GDB enjoy a dynamic work environment with varied daily tasks, from mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing to scrubbing, buffing, and waxing floors. The job also incorporates opportunities to serve students directly, which adds a fulfilling personal dimension to the work.

Working at GDB offers many additional benefits beyond the rewarding aspects of the job. Employees have access to wellness activities like yoga, circuit training, and an on-site gym, contributing to a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Guiding principles of respect, inclusion, and accommodation for all individuals, including those with disabilities, are deeply embedded in the organization's culture. The pay range for this Housekeeper position is $23.00 to $26.00 per hour, reflecting the organization's commitment to fair compensation. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who possess housekeeping skills, enjoy varied tasks, and want to be part of a meaningful mission that positively affects the lives of people who are visually impaired.
