The role of Housekeeper at Sunrise Senior Living embodies this commitment by creating a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for residents, their families, and colleagues. Situated in a community such as Bedford Court, the Housekeeper is responsible for performing a wide range of housekeeping and laundry duties that meet and exceed the established quality standards of Sunrise. This includes cleaning resident suites, public areas, and support spaces with meticulous attention to detail, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring that both the physical environment and residents’ experiences remain positive and healthy. The Housekeeper also supports resident care by assisting Care Managers when needed, reflecting Sunrise's holistic approach to care that combines comfort with safety and dignity.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous housekeeping experience preferably in senior living or healthcare settings
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and infection control measures
  • Willingness to participate in required safety, compliance, and training programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, team members and supervisors
  • Ability to respect resident privacy and confidentiality
  • Current vaccination status according to applicable laws including Covid-19 and influenza if mandated
  • Ability to operate household cleaning equipment safely
  • Must comply with pre-employment screenings and health evaluations according to federal, state, and local laws

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Perform general housekeeping duties in resident suites, public areas, and support areas as assigned while meeting or exceeding Sunrise’s quality standards
  • Perform cleaning duties according to schedule in assigned areas such as resident suites, bathrooms, common areas and offices including sweeping, dusting, dust mopping, wet mopping floors
  • Spot clean and vacuum floors, rugs, carpets, and runners
  • Clean, sanitize, and polish lavatory, shower, and sink fixtures
  • Dust, wash, sponge mop, sanitize and hand shampoo furniture
  • Dust desk and floor lamps
  • Clean and polish glass surfaces, woodwork, walls, and windowsills
  • Knock on resident’s doors before entering and respect their privacy
  • Knock on public restroom doors before entering and wait for a response
  • Maintain equipment and supplies in a clean and orderly condition
  • Transport supplies including clean and soiled linen to proper storage and collection areas
  • Collect and remove trash maintaining trash receptacles and collection areas in a clean sanitary manner
  • Collect, clean, and redistribute community laundry
  • Sort, wash, dry linens following approved laundry procedures
  • Fold, count, stack linens and inspect for wear and tear
  • Assist Care Managers and Department Coordinators with resident care when requested
  • Practice positive resident relations and respond to resident requests by directing feedback to supervisors
  • Review and document resident physical and behavioral changes in Daily Log
  • Ensure proper storage and locking of cleaning chemicals
  • Maintain safety standards by ensuring no hazards block exits and compliance with fire codes
  • Participate in risk management and safety training including use of PPE, fire extinguishers, and infection control procedures
  • Contribute positively to team goals, attend team meetings and maintain compliance with assigned training
  • Perform other duties as assigned
