Job Description

The Archdiocese of St. Louis is a prominent religious organization dedicated to teaching and sharing the Catholic faith, serving the community, and fostering unity across the St. Louis area. The housekeeper will be responsible for a range of cleaning and maintenance tasks including daily waste disposal, bed making, bathroom cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, and thorough sanitization of living spaces. Special attention is given to the unique needs of each priest, such as extra care for those who are ill, hospitalized, or away on vacation. The role also involves vigilant monitoring of safety alarms and emergency situations, reflecting the Archdiocese's priority on safety and wellbeing.

Beyond the physical upkeep, the housekeeper must be observant and alert to any signs of health changes or emergencies concerning the priests, ensuring timely interventions and communication with the administration team. Job Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with priests and team members
  • Ability to keep priests’ personal information confidential
  • Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and operate appliances
  • Ability to work alone and in team settings
  • Ability to follow directions from administrator
  • Ability to vacuum, dust, mop bathrooms, and make neat beds
  • Ability to maintain and keep cleaning cart neat
  • Friendly and happy disposition
  • Ability to stand, bend, push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds consistently during a four-hour shift
  • Ability to work well with administrator, other housekeepers, and team members
  • Ability to be gentle and compassionate in dealing with priests and team members
  • Accountability for cleaning chemicals, electrical appliances, and care of furnishings and linens
  • Completion of pre-employment screenings including background check and health screening

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in professional housekeeping or custodial work preferred
  • Ability to follow detailed cleaning protocols
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks including lifting up to 40 pounds
  • Friendly and compassionate demeanor
  • Basic knowledge of using cleaning chemicals safely

Job Duties

  • Gather information from the front office regarding priest rooms that need special attention
  • Recognize and respond to smoke alarms, fire alarms, and other emergencies
  • Be alert to unusual situations including changes in priest routines or signs of health decline
  • Empty waste cans daily
  • Make beds and change sheets weekly
  • Clean bathrooms thoroughly including shower, toilet, sink, mirrors, and floors
  • Dust furniture, shelves, and blinds weekly
  • Vacuum floors in rooms, halls, and linen closets weekly
  • Move furniture as needed with maintenance help
  • Defrost and clean refrigerators regularly
  • Deep clean rooms of absent priests with collaboration
  • Report maintenance issues
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the administrator
  • Clean toilets and run water fixtures in empty rooms weekly
  • Vacuum and dust empty rooms monthly
