Job Description

The City of Omaha is a dynamic municipal organization committed to providing exceptional services to the residents and businesses within the Omaha area. As one of the largest cities in Nebraska, Omaha offers a wide range of services to its community, including public safety, infrastructure maintenance, recreational facilities, and public administration. The City focuses on fostering an inclusive, safe, and healthy environment for all residents by maintaining city buildings, public spaces, and local infrastructure effectively and efficiently. Employment with the City of Omaha comes with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the community while working within an established governmental framework that values professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.

This part-time and seasonal custodial role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to contribute to the cleanliness and maintenance of City buildings and facilities. The position primarily involves performing routine cleaning and custodial work, ensuring that assigned areas remain clean, safe, and orderly. Duties include maintaining floors and carpets through sweeping, waxing, mopping, and buffing; cleaning walls, woodwork, windows, glass, venetian blinds, and water fountains; and tending to restroom fixtures to maintain hygiene standards. This role requires the individual to be detail-oriented and physically active, as the work entails a variety of maintenance and cleaning tasks.

The Custodian will also be responsible for maintaining the facility's grounds, which includes picking up debris and spreading salt on sidewalks during icy conditions to ensure safety. The role may include setting up and taking down chairs and tables for meetings or special events, providing support wherever necessary. Additionally, custodians perform minor maintenance such as changing light bulbs and cleaning or replacing furnace and air-conditioning filters. Maintaining an inventory of supplies and keeping supply areas orderly also falls within the scope of this position.

This position reports directly to a supervisor who provides guidance and oversight, making it suitable for individuals who can work independently but also follow instructions carefully. The job requires physical capacity such as climbing, standing, walking for most of the time, and lifting moderate weights. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and may need a valid driver's license if assigned to multiple locations. The pay rate is $20.00 or more per hour, which reflects the importance of the role in maintaining City facilities' cleanliness and safety.

The City of Omaha emphasizes equal employment opportunities and provides reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities throughout the hiring process, ensuring an inclusive workplace culture. While this position does not offer benefits due to its part-time and seasonal nature, it provides meaningful work contributing directly to the public welfare and community standards of cleanliness. Interested candidates must apply online through the official City of Omaha website and ensure all required materials are submitted on time, demonstrating professionalism from the onset.

Overall, this custodial position offers a valuable opportunity to be part of a respected municipal workforce, maintain important public facilities, and uphold high standards of cleanliness and safety within the community. Candidates looking for seasonal part-time employment that enables them to develop skills in cleaning services and facility maintenance will find this role rewarding and essential to the City of Omaha.
