Job Requirements

  • Minimum 10th grade education
  • no prior experience required as on-the-job training is provided

  • maintain housekeeping areas cleanliness, order, and safety

  • must not pose a direct threat to workplace health or safety
  • able to move intermittently throughout the workday

  • capable of handling mental and emotional stress
  • must meet general health requirements through medical and physical examination

Job Qualifications

  • Must possess a 10th grade education

  • must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition
  • must not pose a direct threat to health or safety of others
  • must be able to follow established safety protocols and infection control measures
  • must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and respect resident rights
  • must be willing to work harmoniously with personnel and residents
  • must be physically capable to perform cleaning duties including lifting up to 20 pounds
  • must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • must be flexible and able to handle the mental and emotional stress of a healthcare environment

Job Duties

  • Ensure that work and cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical
  • report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be
  • coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living and recreational areas
  • attend departmental and staff meetings as directed or called
  • perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments
  • file complaints and grievances with your supervisor
  • participate and assist in department studies and projects as directed
  • attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs
  • follow established fire safety policies and procedures
  • follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies
  • wear and or use safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving heavy objects
  • ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner
  • keep work assignment areas free of hazardous objects
  • follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning
  • follow established policies governing the use of labels and MSDSs
  • report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor
  • maintain infection control and universal precautions when performing housekeeping procedures
  • report missing or improperly labeled containers of hazardous chemicals
  • use appropriate personal protective equipment when handling infectious materials or hazardous wastes
  • follow handwashing procedures
  • dispose of refuse daily in accordance with sanitation procedures
  • follow policies governing the use and disposal of protective equipment and infectious wastes
  • coordinate routine and terminal isolation procedures with nursing service
  • ensure adequate housekeeping supplies are maintained
  • report burned out or malfunctioning lights to supervisor
  • assist in lifting heavy equipment or supplies as directed
  • clean and properly store equipment at end of shift
  • perform day-to-day housekeeping functions
  • empty and sanitize ash trays daily
  • clean and polish furnishings, fixtures, room heating and cooling units
  • clean, wash, sanitize, and polish bathroom fixtures
  • clean windows and mirrors
  • clean floors including sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, and disinfecting
  • clean carpets including vacuuming and shampooing
  • clean walls and ceilings
  • remove dirt, dust, grease, and film from surfaces
  • clean hallways, stairways, and elevators
  • discard waste and reline trash receptacles
  • clean vacant rooms as assigned
  • perform isolation cleaning procedures
  • maintain confidentiality of resident information
  • respect residents rights and property
  • inform residents when moving possessions during cleaning
  • turn in found articles to supervisor
  • work in all areas of the facility
  • communicate with personnel and visitors
  • work beyond normal hours and on weekends, holidays when necessary
  • handle hostile and emotionally upset individuals
  • attend continuing education programs
  • maintain safety and sanitation standards
  • comply with physical and sensory requirements for the role
