This full-time night shift Environmental Service Associate position is a critical role within the Environmental Services department at John C. Lincoln Medical Center. The shift runs from 11:30 pm to 7:00 am and includes a new hire sign-on bonus as a benefit. The Environmental Service Associate ensures that the patient care environment remains clean, safe, and comfortable, directly impacting patient experience and outcomes. This role requires attention to detail and adherence to strict sanitation protocols, reflecting the high standards expected in healthcare settings.

The Environmental Service Associate plays a vital role in maintaining cleanliness in patient rooms, waiting areas, and common spaces. Responsibilities include stocking linens and supplies, safely disposing of hazardous and infectious waste, and assisting in patient comfort by responding promptly to housekeeping service requests. This position also involves transportation of trash and linens to designated collection areas, keeping medical equipment sanitized, and monitoring patient areas for cleanliness and safety.

A significant aspect of the role is performing room and equipment cleaning while following established procedures and sanitation protocols. The associate must operate cleaning chemicals responsibly, understanding proper dilution rates to avoid damage to surfaces, and maintain the functionality and cleanliness of housekeeping equipment and carts. In addition, the associate participates in patient safety rounding, ensuring any signs of patient distress are promptly reported to nursing staff, contributing to a safe and supportive patient environment.

Job Requirements

  • Other or certificate less than high school required
  • 6 months experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license preferred for positions requiring driving HonorHealth vehicles
  • Must be at least 21 years old to drive HonorHealth vehicles
  • Must provide a current and valid Arizona driver’s license
  • Motor Vehicle Report required and reviewed by Human Resources
  • Completion of HonorHealth Defensive Driving Course if driving is involved

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous experience in housekeeping or environmental services preferred
  • Ability to follow detailed cleaning protocols and safety procedures
  • Effective communication skills and ability to respond to patient requests
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team
  • Basic knowledge of chemical handling and safety
  • Compassionate and professional demeanor

Job Duties

  • Maintain cleanliness of patient care areas following established procedures and sanitation protocols
  • Execute checkout room cleaning per department guidelines and dispose of hazardous and infectious waste in compliance with protocols
  • Perform morning and evening patient room rounds to inspect rooms, remove clutter, empty trash, and refresh bathrooms
  • Respond to patient service requests for housekeeping services and hospitality support
  • Clean common area spaces and waiting areas on the patient care unit and stock linen and housekeeping supplies
  • Clean and sanitize medical equipment as assigned and stage equipment for pickup
  • Monitor corridors to keep them free from clutter
  • Participate in patient safety rounding, monitoring patients for signs of distress and alerting nursing personnel when intervention is required
  • Mix and use cleaning chemicals according to directions ensuring proper dilution and no damage to surfaces
  • Operate, maintain, and repair equipment used by the department ensuring cleanliness and working order
  • Perform other duties as assigned
