Job Description
Abrazo Arrowhead Campus is a prominent 217-bed hospital located in Glendale, Arizona, serving the community since 1988. Known for its commitment to delivering advanced healthcare services, the hospital specializes in cardiovascular care, orthopedics, obstetrics, and emergency services. Abrazo Arrowhead Campus prides itself on creating a supportive environment where dedicated healthcare professionals can thrive and make a meaningful impact on patient care. The hospital emphasizes a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement, making it a leading medical facility in the region.
The position available is for a Single Departmental Function Supervisor or Shift Supervisor. This role is crucial in ensuring smooth daily operations within hospital departments by adhering to hospital policies. The individual in this role is responsible for supervising tasks, managing schedules, and problem-solving within their assigned areas. Leadership is an integral part of this position, especially in the absence of Department Directors and hospital administration, where the supervisor acts as the primary leader for hospital staff. Serving as an administrative representative, this role also facilitates communication between staff, management, and the medical team.
The supervisor interprets and enforces organizational goals while prioritizing patient care and departmental tasks. They estimate patient workloads, ensure staffing levels meet these demands, and guarantee compliance with relevant policies, standards of practice, and care requirements. This role also assists in delivering quality, customer service-oriented care across the patient journey from pre-admission to post-discharge. Responsibilities extend to coordinating admissions, transfers, bed assignments, and authorizations as required. The supervisor holds management responsibilities such as acuity management, conflict resolution using team-building strategies, and mentoring staff on efficient customer service and clinical practices.
With a focus on interpersonal skills, the supervisor acts as a critical liaison between physicians, patients, families, and various hospital departments. They support physicians during admissions, discharge planning, and utilization management. The role demands strong problem-solving skills to identify, propose, and implement improvements in patient care and operational efficiency. The supervisor is also a patient advocate dedicated to promoting safety, customer satisfaction, and resource stewardship.
In addition to clinical oversight, the supervisor provides leadership and serves as a role model, educating and mentoring staff to uphold a standard of excellence. They participate in hospital-wide initiatives to enhance workflow, reduce waste, and improve revenue outcomes. The position requires the ability to independently make sound decisions under pressure with minimal supervision.
Special skills for this role include demonstrated professional growth, effective communication, computer literacy, budget management, and change implementation capabilities. The position requires a registered nurse with a nursing school graduate degree, a minimum of three years of clinical experience, and relevant licensure including CPR and ACLS certifications. Preferred candidates will hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, have management and supervisory experience, and hold PALS certification.
Abrazo Arrowhead Campus offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee health, professional growth, and work-life balance. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k) plan with employer matching, generous paid time off, career development opportunities, flexible spending accounts, and employee assistance programs among others. This employment opportunity welcomes compassionate healthcare professionals eager to make a difference in patient care through a rewarding and supportive work environment.
