The House Attendant role at Sonesta International Hotels is a vital position within the Housekeeping Management Team, designed to support Room Attendants on assigned floors or buildings. The House Attendant is responsible for various operational tasks including collecting dirty linens and transporting them to the laundry area, delivering clean linens to Room Attendant carts, and managing waste by retrieving trash throughout the hotel. This role not only supports housekeeping staff but also contributes to maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the hotel's public areas such as restrooms and storage rooms, ensuring the environment reflects Sonesta's high standards of hospitality.

This role requires a hands-on approach to collaborating with Room Attendants, especially when moving heavy items like mattresses and linens. The House Attendant ensures the organization of floor closets and corridors, including tasks like sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and wiping down counters to maintain cleanliness. The ability to respond swiftly to guest requests and maintain safe working conditions by reporting repairs or hazards is essential. Additionally, the House Attendant may assist with deep cleaning projects and is required to follow federal, state, and local health and safety laws.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Some previous housekeeping experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor including standing, bending, lifting up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to use cleaning chemicals safely
  • Availability to work flexible shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Reliable and punctual work ethic

Job Qualifications

  • Some previous housekeeping experience preferred
  • Previous background from the extended stay industry preferred
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English is preferred
  • Other languages beneficial
  • Basic reading, writing and mathematical abilities are preferred
  • Ability to stand up frequently, bend, climb, kneel, and move about the facility
  • Ability to carry, lift or pull items weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Willingness to regularly use commercial cleaning chemicals
  • Willingness to work mornings, evening, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients according to the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards
  • Work with Room Attendants with heavy items such as mattresses and linens
  • Deliver linens and other supplies to Room Attendants
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of floor closets and corridors to include removing trash, wiping down shelves/counters
  • sweeping, moping and/or vacuuming floors
  • and removing non-floor closet items and storing in appropriate areas
  • Respond to guests’ requests such as in a timely and efficient manner
  • Clean other designated areas such as public restrooms, storage rooms, and other public area spaces
  • Report needed repairs or unsafe conditions to supervisor
  • Respond to special requests, guest complaints, and the delivery of housekeeping/room supplies to achieve complete guest satisfaction
  • Deliver lost and found items according to established procedures
  • May regularly assist with deep cleaning projects
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other shifts and departmental management
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws regarding health and safety services
  • Perform other duties as assigned
