Job Description
Vistar is America's leading candy, snack, and beverage distributor with more than 25 distribution centers nationwide. The company plays a vital role in the food distribution system across the United States by delivering a wide range of products, from popular snacks like popcorn to healthy meal replacements. With a history of innovation and a commitment to exceeding customer expectations, Vistar fosters a collaborative culture built on teamwork, integrity, and giving back to the communities it serves. As part of Performance Food Group and its subsidiaries, Vistar embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion, offering equal employment opportunities to all applicants and employees regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, and other protected characteristics.
The CDL-A Driver position at Vistar is critical in supporting the country’s food supply chain. Drivers are entrusted with delivering products safely and on time, while also representing the company in a professional manner that builds strong relationships with customers. This role requires operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes including local, intrastate, interstate, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight trips. The CDL-A Driver must adhere closely to Department of Transportation regulations, company safety guidelines, and service standards. Responsibilities include performing detailed safety checks before and after trips, inspecting vehicles and trailers to ensure compliance with safety standards, securely loading and unloading freight, and managing official paperwork associated with deliveries.
Drivers at Vistar not only ensure that deliveries are accurate and timely but also provide customer service by verifying deliveries with customers and obtaining signatures when needed. They may handle payments including cash or checks and must take care in managing damaged goods and returns. This position demands both physical ability to handle freight typically weighing between 10 to 90 pounds and technical skills like logging hours of service and completing driving records. Additionally, CDL-A Drivers contribute to maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including loading dock areas and ensuring all equipment is properly secured at the end of shifts.
Vistar offers competitive pay and an attractive benefits package, including Day 1 health and wellness benefits, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and numerous other perks. The company emphasizes growth opportunities, safe and inclusive workplaces, and a culture of rewards and recognition. This role suits individuals who are responsible, detail-oriented, and dedicated to supporting the essential function of food distribution in America. Vistar values every team member's contribution and supports continuous development within the organization, making this an appealing opportunity for professional drivers looking for stability, respect, and a chance to make a difference in their community.
