Job Description

The Ohio State University is a renowned public research university located in Columbus, Ohio. Known for its commitment to excellence in education, research, and community engagement, the university offers diverse academic programs and a supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff. Among its many campus facilities is The Blackwell Inn and Pfahl Conference Center, a full-service hospitality establishment that provides premier lodging, dining, and event services to visitors, guests, and the university community. The Blackwell Inn is part of the university's Business Advancement department and operates multiple dining outlets, including a restaurant, lounge, student meal programs, in-room dining, and banquet services. It is committed to delivering exceptional guest experiences by blending quality service, culinary innovation, and operational excellence.

The role of Operations Manager, Food & Beverage at The Blackwell Inn is a full-time managerial position based at the Columbus campus. This role is integral to the seamless operation and leadership of the food and beverage services within this prestigious venue. The Operations Manager will oversee a dynamic, multi-outlet operation and work closely with culinary and leadership teams to ensure superior service standards, guest satisfaction, and profitability. The Operations Manager will be instrumental in fostering a positive work culture, mentoring team members, and ensuring the Blackwell Inn maintains its stature as a preferred destination in hospitality on campus.

Given the university setting, this role also demands flexibility to support a 24/7 hospitality operation, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The manager will be responsible for balancing the diverse needs of the restaurant, banquets, and other dining services while upholding the high standards expected by Preferred Hotels and the university. They will lead by example, spending time on the floor to coach employees, resolve issues swiftly, and enhance the overall dining experience. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with marketing and culinary teams to drive menu innovation, promotions, and revenue growth.

Candidates for this position should bring a passion for hospitality, leadership acumen, and strong organizational and communication skills. The manager must be adept at problem-solving and team development while embracing the dynamic environment of the Blackwell Inn's food and beverage operations. Educational requirements include a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, and relevant leadership experience of at least three years is essential. Preferred qualifications include an associate degree in hospitality or related fields and additional years of industry experience.

The Blackwell Inn offers a competitive salary range of $55,700 to $72,700, complemented by comprehensive benefits starting from day one. These benefits include significant employer contributions towards medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off including vacation, sick leave and holidays, retirement plans, tuition assistance, and professional development opportunities. Working at The Blackwell Inn means being part of a prestigious institution with a commitment to career growth, excellence in service, and a vibrant team environment dedicated to making a difference in hospitality and guest experience at Ohio State University.
