Job Description
American Cruise Lines is the largest USA flagged cruise line in the United States, specializing in operating small passenger ships with no more than 200 guests. The company exclusively offers domestic cruises, creating unique and intimate travel experiences across various American waterways. Known for its commitment to safety, quality, and exceptional guest service, American Cruise Lines continues to expand its fleet with newly constructed vessels, making 2026 a promising year for growth and opportunity. The company prides itself on living by its core values of optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit, which shape its culture and the quality of service it delivers onboard. Joining American Cruise Lines means becoming part of a dynamic team dedicated to sharing America's story on some of the finest American ships.
The role of Hotel General Manager onboard an American Cruise Lines vessel is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the entire hotel operations on the ship. This includes managing hospitality, guest services, housekeeping, and food and beverage service to ensure a superior cruising experience for all guests. The Hotel General Manager is the primary representative of the company to its guests and holds direct supervisory responsibility over the shipboard hotel management team including the Assistant Hotel Manager, Housekeeping Manager, Restaurant Manager, Cruise Director, Excursions Director, Executive Chef, and Guest Service Coordinator. This role demands a dedicated professional who ensures that all staff adhere to company procedures and service standards, creating an environment of excellence and outstanding customer satisfaction.
Beyond daily management, the Hotel General Manager assesses team performance, provides immediate feedback, and maintains crew morale and discipline aboard the vessel. The successful candidate will anticipate and meet the needs of guests and crew, manage business transactions, oversee inventory and supply orders in collaboration with the Executive Chef, and ensure that cleanliness and safety standards meet the highest level. The position also requires management presence during meal services, cocktail hours, and onboard events, as well as the ability to address guest issues promptly and effectively. Physical stamina and the ability to work extended hours under the unique conditions of life at sea are critical for success in this role.
Position employment type is full-time and exempt, with a work pattern consisting of around 14 to 15 hour days for six to eight weeks onboard, followed by 1 to 2 weeks off. Compensation includes a competitive daily rate along with comprehensive benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, and continuous career growth opportunities. Travel, room and board, uniforms, and training are fully covered by the company, making it a highly attractive career path for hospitality professionals seeking to work and live aboard a cruise ship. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a passionate team committed to excellence and to advance your career in hospitality management in a unique maritime environment.
