Job Description

American Cruise Lines is the largest USA-flagged cruise line operating exclusively within the United States, renowned for offering unique small ship experiences aboard its fleet of vessels that accommodate no more than 200 passengers. With an expanding fleet featuring newly constructed vessels, the company is recognized for its commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences while showcasing the diverse stories and landscapes of America. As a company deeply rooted in values such as optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit, American Cruise Lines strives to foster a culture that prioritizes quality service, professional growth, and a strong sense of community both among team members and guests alike.

The role of Hotel General Manager at American Cruise Lines is a senior leadership position aboard their ships, serving as the primary hotel officer responsible for supervising all aspects of the guest experience. This includes hospitality management, customer service, housekeeping, and food service operations. The Hotel General Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the operational standards and company policies are upheld by the entire shipboard hotel management team, which includes assistant managers, directors of various departments, and the executive chef. A key part of this role is to maintain service excellence and guest satisfaction, which are critical performance indicators for the company.

This full-time, exempt position requires the General Manager to work seven days a week during their shipboard assignments, which typically last six to eight weeks, followed by one to two weeks off. The job demands a hands-on approach, with the manager expected to be visibly present during meal services, cocktail hours, and onboard events to guarantee superior service delivery. The manager is also tasked with overseeing the cleanliness of passenger areas, managing inventory, handling shipboard business transactions, and leading crew orientation and discipline to maintain high standards.

Physical demands of the role include the ability to perform job duties in an environment subject to constant ship motion and the capacity to meet moderate physical requirements such as lifting, bending, standing for long periods, and climbing. The Hotel General Manager must also pass US Coast Guard drug testing and possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Although cruise industry experience is not mandatory, a background in hotel or food and beverage management along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.

This position offers a competitive daily rate and comprehensive benefits, including health, dental, vision insurance, and a 401(k) plan with company match. Additionally, American Cruise Lines covers travel, room and board, uniforms, and training expenses, underscoring their commitment to employee support and continuous growth within the company. This role is ideal for motivated professionals who are passionate about hospitality, enjoy dynamic work environments, and are eager to contribute to exceptional guest experiences aboard one of America’s finest ships.
