Job Description

The Westin Seattle is a premier hotel located in the vibrant city of Seattle, Washington. Being a full-service hotel, it encompasses various departments, including guest services, housekeeping, food and beverage, and engineering. The engineering department plays a crucial role in maintaining the physical environment to ensure safety, comfort, and functionality within the hotel premises.

The Westin Seattle is currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Engineer to join its Engineering & Facilities team on a full-time basis. This non-management role is integral to the smooth operation of the hotel, focusing on responding to guest repair requests and ensuring the upkeep of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $28.32 to $35.40, reflecting the specialized skills required and the level of responsibility entrusted to the candidate.

The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for a diverse range of tasks, including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs across multiple systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building management. This role demands proficiency in using hand and power tools safely, along with the ability to perform repairs like soldering pipes, replacing motors and pumps, and addressing common guestroom equipment issues. Additionally, the engineer will support surface preparation and painting projects, minor drywall and wood trim repairs, and the maintenance of kitchen and vehicle equipment.

Candidates must demonstrate solid knowledge in engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance, energy management, and other systems used within the hotel environment. They should be capable of mid-level troubleshooting of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems and possess the ability to take on Engineer on Duty responsibilities when required. This includes conducting readings, rounds, and ensuring compliance with safety and security protocols.

The position also involves effective communication with guests and team members, ensuring that maintenance issues are promptly and professionally addressed. The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for maintaining inventory, requisitioning parts and supplies, and keeping detailed records of daily activities and incidents. The role requires adherence to the companys high standards of appearance and guest interaction, reflecting The Westin Seattles commitment to exceptional service.

Overall, this role is well suited to individuals with a vocational or technical background, at least two years of hotel engineering or maintenance experience, and relevant certifications such as the Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification. A valid driver’s license is also necessary. Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Respond and attend to guest repair requests
  • communicate with guests/customers to resolve maintenance issues
  • perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment including cleaning and lubrication
  • visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines
  • carry equipment such as tools and radio
  • identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves for equipment and buildings
  • maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies
  • assure communication of daily activities and problems to other shifts
  • demonstrate proficiency in air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finish skills, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building management
  • use hand and power tools safely for repair and maintenance tasks
  • repair or replace PVC copper pipe including soldering
  • troubleshoot and perform basic repair on equipment including pumps, motors, plumbing, electrical equipment, lamps, switches, outlets, and guestroom items
  • program TVs and perform general housekeeping and engineering-related duties
  • assist with surface preparation, painting, minor drywall and wood trim repairs
  • use Lockout/Tagout system during maintenance
  • use engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance, energy management, and other systems
  • perform mid-level troubleshooting of hotel MEP systems
  • train and mentor other engineers
  • perform Engineer on Duty responsibilities including readings and rounds
  • follow company safety and security policies and procedures
  • report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, and injuries
  • complete safety training and certifications
  • properly store flammable materials
  • maintain clean and professional uniform and personal appearance
  • protect company assets
  • welcome and acknowledge guests according to company standards
  • anticipate and address guest service needs
  • assist individuals with disabilities
  • adhere to quality expectations and standards
