Job Description
The hiring establishment is located at 3030 Holiday Dr, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Specializing in providing exceptional guest services, the organization operates within the hospitality industry with a focus on engineering and facilities maintenance for its hotel operations. It is a full-time, non-management position which offers a dynamic and supportive environment where the employee plays a vital role in ensuring the hotel's property, equipment, and guest areas are well-maintained and functioning optimally to enhance guest satisfaction. The role is situated on-site and does not offer remote work options, emphasizing hands-on involvement and direct engagement with the hotel environment. The position requires punctuality, reliability, and a high level of professionalism as it directly impacts the guest experience and operational efficiency of the hotel.
This role centers on the responsibilities of an Engineer or Maintenance Technician tasked with attending to guest repair requests and resolving maintenance issues efficiently and independently. The candidate will communicate effectively with guests and customers, ensuring all concerns are addressed promptly and satisfactorily. Preventive maintenance forms a significant part of the job, involving cleaning and lubrication of tools and equipment, as well as conducting visual inspections to detect and address potential problems before they escalate. Employees must be adept at carrying necessary equipment such as tools and radios and demonstrate proficiency across multiple technical categories including air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and pneumatics/electronics systems and controls. They must also show competency in carpentry, kitchen equipment maintenance, vehicle upkeep, energy conservation, and general building management.
Hands-on skills in safe use of hand and power tools and basic repair capabilities are essential. Practical knowledge includes repairing or replacing pipes including soldering, troubleshooting and repairing pumps, motors, plumbing issues such as unclogging drains, and handling electrical equipment like lamps, switches, outlets, and guestroom items. Additional duties involve programming TVs, managing housekeeping and engineering tasks, surface preparation and repair work including painting, minor drywall repair, wood trim, and filter replacements. Employees will also use a Lockout/Tagout system for safety and are expected to operate engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance and energy management.
The position demands mid-level troubleshooting skills specifically for hotel Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems and the ability to mentor and train junior engineers, indicating a role with leadership and knowledge-sharing responsibilities. Performing Engineer on Duty tasks such as readings and rounds is also part of daily duties. Adherence to company safety and security policies is paramount, including reporting of hazards and accidents, completion of safety trainings, and proper handling of flammable materials. The role requires maintaining a clean and professional appearance, protecting proprietary information, and upholding company asset security.
Customer service is emphasized with expectations to welcome guests, anticipate needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and maintain quality standards consistently. Positive working relationships and teamwork are encouraged along with professional communication. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, using stairs, ramps, ladders, reaching overhead and below the knees, and computer usage for information access. Overall, this position is crucial for ensuring a safe, functional, and hospitable environment at the hotel while providing excellent guest service and technical support.
