Job Description
The W Austin is a vibrant and contemporary luxury hotel located at 200 Lavaca Street in Austin, Texas. Known for its unique blend of cutting-edge design and local culture, this establishment offers guests a dynamic hospitality experience in the heart of the city. As part of the renowned W Hotels brand, the W Austin prioritizes exceptional guest service, innovative amenities, and a lively atmosphere that caters to both leisure and business travelers. The hotel's commitment to excellence extends to every aspect of its operations, including its engineering and maintenance teams, who work diligently to maintain the property’s high standards and ensure an outstanding guest experience.
The role of Engineering Technician at W Austin is a full-time, non-management position that is integral to the smooth operation of the hotel. This position offers a competitive hourly wage of $22.80 and requires an individual who is proactive, skilled, and capable of managing various maintenance and repair tasks independently or with minimal supervision. The Engineering Technician is responsible for responding promptly to guest repair requests and communicating effectively with guests and customers to resolve maintenance issues. Preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication, is a key part of this role, along with visual inspections and troubleshooting of hotel mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
The responsibilities extend to maintaining maintenance inventories, requisitioning parts and supplies, and ensuring seamless communication between shifts. Candidates must show proficiency in at least one technical area such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic or electronic systems, carpentry, and kitchen equipment. They should also have a solid understanding of safety procedures, including the use of Lockout/Tagout systems and compliance with company policies and safety standards.
Beyond technical expertise, the role demands excellent interpersonal skills, as the Engineering Technician interacts regularly with guests and colleagues, ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction and teamwork. Physical stamina and the ability to perform various manual tasks, such as lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds and moving through different work environments, are essential. Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a technical background, and at least two years of relevant hotel engineering or maintenance experience. A valid driver’s license and universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification are mandatory as part of the role’s compliance with state and federal regulations.
By joining the W Austin team as an Engineering Technician, individuals will become part of a forward-thinking hospitality environment that values innovation, safety, and guest satisfaction. This role not only offers the opportunity to apply technical skills in a dynamic setting but also to contribute to a welcoming and efficient hotel experience for all visitors. Employees are encouraged to grow professionally within the company and participate actively in maintaining the hotel’s reputation as a leader in the Austin hospitality scene.
