Job Description
Marriott International is a globally renowned hospitality company known for delivering exceptional guest experiences across its portfolio of brands. Among these brands is JW Marriott, a luxury segment offering outstanding service and accommodations in gateway cities and resort locations worldwide. JW Marriott is dedicated to fostering a work environment where associates feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow both personally and professionally. The company emphasizes a warm, welcoming culture that prioritizes associate well-being, growth, and a sense of community. With more than 100 properties globally, JW Marriott is celebrated for creating unforgettable experiences for guests while maintaining a strong commitment to its associates through comprehensive training, career development opportunities, and recognition programs.
This job opportunity is for a full-time, non-management Engineering and Facilities Maintenance position located in Scottsdale, Arizona. The role comes with a competitive pay rate of $24.70 per hour and requires presence onsite, ensuring hands-on maintenance and repair support is readily available to uphold the high standards of JW Marriott. The Maintenance Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and aesthetics of the hotel and its facilities, working diligently to respond promptly to guest repair requests and maintaining various types of equipment and infrastructure.
The Maintenance Technician’s responsibilities are multifaceted, focusing on guest satisfaction through prompt maintenance and preventive care. The role requires effective communication with guests to address maintenance issues comprehensively and professionally. Duties include performing routine preventive maintenance on kitchen and mechanical equipment, cleaning and lubricating tools, and conducting visual inspections to identify faults or needed repairs before they impact guest experience.
An essential part of the job is the ability to identify and operate shut-off valves and utility systems efficiently, ensuring safety and minimizing downtime during any maintenance activity. Maintaining an accurate inventory of parts and tools and requisitioning supplies as required helps avoid delays in repair work and supports continuous operations. The technician will also log daily activities and communicate issues across shifts, supporting a cohesive maintenance team.
The Maintenance Technician should have a basic knowledge of various technical areas including air conditioning and refrigeration systems, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic and electronic controls, carpentry, kitchen equipment, vehicle maintenance, energy conservation, and general building upkeep. The role demands versatility as it spans surface preparation, painting, drywall and wood trim repairs, changing light bulbs and filters, and performing general housekeeping related to engineering tasks.
Troubleshooting and repair skills cover multiple equipment types, from plumbing fixes like plunging toilets and unclogging drains to electrical repairs such as replacing switches and outlets or maintaining guestroom electronic devices. Safety is paramount; thus, the technician must use lockout/tagout systems correctly and follow all company, safety, and security policies diligently.
In addition to technical duties, the role requires excellent guest interaction skills, embodying JW Marriott’s commitment to hospitality by welcoming, assisting, and thanking guests sincerely. The Maintenance Technician will also contribute to maintaining the hotel's exterior and interior landscaping and irrigation systems, showcasing the position's diverse scope.
The position demands physical capability for tasks such as moving objects up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders, and bending and stooping as needed. Basic computer skills are beneficial for inputting schedules and system adjustments.
JW Marriott places a strong emphasis on equal opportunity employment, valuing diverse backgrounds and experiences, and fostering an inclusive environment where all associates can thrive. By joining JW Marriott, candidates become part of a respected global team in a vibrant luxury hospitality setting, with opportunities to learn, grow, and lead a fulfilling career.
