Job Description
Orlando Health is a prominent healthcare network that is committed to providing exceptional medical care and patient services in the Central Florida region. Known for its integrated facilities and comprehensive health programs, Orlando Health emphasizes the importance of quality patient care, innovative treatment approaches, and community health education. The organization encompasses a broad spectrum of medical specialties and support services designed to foster wellness and recovery for patients of all ages. With a strong focus on teamwork and professional development, Orlando Health attracts healthcare professionals committed to making a difference in the lives of the patients they serve.
The role of a Food Production Worker at Orlando Health is integral to maintaining the high standards of food service within the healthcare environment. As part of the Food and Nutrition Services team, this position is responsible for preparing all hot food items for both patient and non-patient meals, strictly following the production plans and recipes assigned by the Executive Chef, Food & Nutrition Supervisor, or Production Leader. This ensures that every meal served meets the nutritional and quality standards essential for patient care and satisfaction.
This role involves various critical tasks including assisting with tray assembly and preparing special diet needs such as puree meals and supplements, which are vital for patients with specific dietary requirements. The Food Production Worker is expected to be familiar with basic food preparation techniques encompassing the receiving, storage, preparation, and proper holding of food items to preserve food safety and quality. Additionally, they must demonstrate knowledge of food service sanitation, infection control procedures, and adhere rigorously to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) guidelines to ensure safe food handling practices.
Effective communication plays a key role in this position, requiring coordination and information sharing with Executive Chefs, supervisors, group leaders, and other members of the food service team to meet both patient and non-patient needs efficiently. The employee is also encouraged to demonstrate flexibility and a proactive attitude by assisting in various kitchen functions including cold prep, bakery, storeroom, café serving lines, dishroom, or tray line as needed.
Punctuality and consistent attendance are essential in compliance with Orlando Health policies as well as relevant federal, state, and local standards such as the ADA and FMLA. The Food Production Worker is also expected to participate in ongoing quality improvement activities, observe all departmental regulations, and follow precise portion control and menu preparation guidelines to support operational efficiency and service quality.
This role requires a responsible individual who values teamwork, continuous learning, and strives to contribute positively to the hospital’s food and nutrition services department. The position not only supports patient recovery and wellness through nutritious meal preparation but also helps maintain a clean, organized, and compliant food service environment within one of Central Florida’s leading health systems.
