The Hot Foods Cook position at HMSHost is an essential role within their culinary team that focuses on the preparation of cooked foods at various kitchen stations including Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and Egg cooking stations. The position starts at $22.50 per hour and is classified as a non-exempt role, typically reporting to a Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, or General Manager based on local organizational structure. The Hot Foods Cook is responsible for following recipes and product preparation guidelines to ensure the highest quality standards are met. This role requires strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with managers and servers regarding ticket times or potential issues. In addition to food preparation duties, the Hot Foods Cook maintains cleanliness and sanitization of workstations and equipment, strictly adheres to food safety and HACCP guidelines, and operates various kitchen equipment.

This role is ideal for individuals with at least one year of related cooking experience, preferably in high volume or fast casual dining environments, who are passionate about food and customer service. The job requires physical stamina as it involves lifting up to 40 pounds, bending, twisting, standing for extended periods, and working in hot kitchen environments. Job Requirements

  • Food preparation skills and knowledge of HACCP standards
  • Minimum of 1 year of closely related cooking experience
  • Experience in high volume or fast casual dining restaurant preferred
  • Food knowledge related to soups, sauté, broiler, fry, and pantry stations
  • Ability to speak, read, and comprehend instructions and policy documents
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to bend, twist, and stand for job functions
  • Willingness to work with sharp knives, utensils, and hot kitchen equipment
  • Comfort working in hot environments
  • Ability to frequently immerse hands in water and chemical solutions

Job Duties

  • Follow recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving food items including soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other products
  • Taste products, follow menus, estimate food requirements, check production and keep records to plan production and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment
  • Practice excellent food safety and sanitation practices and comply with HACCP standards
  • Operate various kitchen equipment, measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables
  • Stock, date, rotate, and check temperature of products
  • Communicate ticket times and potential problems to managers and servers as necessary
