We are currently seeking a dedicated Hot Food Cook to join our team on a full-time basis with variable shift hours. This role is crucial as it directly supports the nutrition and dietary needs of our patients, guests, and Meals on Wheels participants. The Hot Food Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of menu items according to therapeutic diet orders, standardized recipes, and food production schedules. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to food safety regulations, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. As a key member of the food service team, the Hot Food Cook maintains a safe and sanitary workspace, operates food service equipment, and ensures the quality and presentation of all food served. This role supports the hospital's commitment to delivering healthy, nutritious meals that meet specific dietary requirements to promote patient health and recovery. With a flexible schedule that varies daily within the same workweek, the position offers opportunities to work one of several shifts starting as early as 5:00 am and ending as late as 7:30 pm. Job Requirements
- 1 or more years of cooking experience
- Clay County Food Handler permit or ServSafe certification within 30 days
- ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations
- must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department
Job Qualifications
- 1 or more years of cooking experience
- high school graduate or GED preferred
- 2 or more years experience with institutional food equipment preferred
- ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations
- Clay County Food Handler permit or ServSafe certification within 30 days
Job Duties
- Maintains a safe, sanitary work environment conforming to policies and regulations
- operates and maintains food service equipment
- stores, labels and dates food items using the First In, First Out (FIFO) methodology
- cooks a variety of menu items for patients, guests and Meals on Wheels participants following therapeutic diet orders, standardized recipes and food production schedules
- follows HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point) principles for time and temperature
- records per policy
- records and maintains accurate food production and leftover/waste records
- tastes and evaluates food for quality
- ensures quality standards are met
- serves menu items for patients, guests and Meals on Wheels participants utilizing correct serving utensil and serving size
- washes dishes, serviceware and pots/pans in the dishroom and pot/pan area
- removes trash, boxes and other waste from the department
- cleans throughout the department including but not limited to surfaces, equipment, carts, walls, and floors
- performs other duties as assigned
- must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department
