Job Description
The roles of Host and To Specialist are essential positions within the hospitality and restaurant industry, designed to ensure an exceptional guest experience from the moment a customer arrives or places an order until they leave. These positions are typically found in full-service restaurants, cafes, or eateries that provide both dine-in and take-out services. The Host serves as the first and last point of contact for guests, playing an integral role in managing the flow of the restaurant and creating a welcoming and organized atmosphere. This position largely focuses on greeting guests promptly and enthusiastically, managing reservations or waitlists, guiding guests to their seats efficiently, and providing clear communication about wait times. Additional responsibilities include handling incoming phone calls and assisting with to-go orders, ensuring smooth operations at the front of the house.
The To Specialist, on the other hand, specializes in handling all aspects related to to-go and curbside orders. This includes accurately taking and confirming phone, online, and third-party delivery orders through platforms such as Door Dash and Uber Eats. The To Specialist ensures that food items are packaged neatly and accurately in accordance with established packaging standards and manages curbside and front-of-house pick-up services. An important part of the role is handling payment transactions, both cash and card, efficiently and courteously while thanking guests, contributing to a positive overall guest experience.
Both roles are critical in fostering a seamless and hospitable dining experience. While the Host ensures a well-organized and friendly dining environment inside the restaurant, the To Specialist ensures a hassle-free and efficient curbside or takeaway experience for customers. These positions require excellent communication skills, attention to detail, multitasking abilities, and a customer-focused attitude. Worked effectively, these roles contribute significantly to the restaurant's reputation for excellent guest service, promptness, and operational efficiency. Employment type is typically part-time or full-time, and salary varies depending on location and experience, often including hourly wages plus potential tips and bonuses.
