Vast is a premier fine dining restaurant located on the 49th floor of the Devon Tower in downtown Oklahoma City. The Host Person at Vast plays a crucial role as the initial point of contact for guests, setting the tone for their overall experience. This non-exempt position reports directly to the Restaurant Manager within the Food and Beverage Department. The role demands a warm and gracious demeanor, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. The Host Person is responsible for welcoming guests with a genuine smile and eye contact, managing reservations and waitlists using tools like Open Table, balancing seating rotations, and ensuring a smooth and efficient flow within the dining room. This position requires someone who maintains a thorough knowledge of menu offerings and daily specials, understands guest preferences, and collaborates closely with servers and management to anticipate guest needs and handle any seating delays proactively. The Host Person also manages the dining room telephone, addresses guest service concerns promptly, supports servers and bus staff as needed, and ensures compliance with company grooming and dress policies. Job Requirements
- Must be at least sixteen years old (at least 21 years old to serve alcoholic beverages)
- previous experience as a server preferred
- must successfully complete restaurant training course
- High School Diploma or GED preferred or currently enrolled in secondary education completion
- at least 1 year of experience with restaurant or customer service experience
- ability to walk and stand throughout an eight-hour shift
- occasionally required to reach with hands and arms
- regularly required to talk or hear
- handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
- ability to lift, balance and carry large, oval dining room service trays
- must have the ability to lift trays, soiled dish bins, etc., of up to 40 pounds in weight
- closed toe, non-canvas and non-skid soled shoes required
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred or currently enrolled in secondary education completion
- at least 1 year of experience with restaurant or customer service experience
- previous experience as a server preferred
- must successfully complete restaurant training course
- ability to communicate effectively with guests, coworkers, and supervisors
- excellent personal presentation and interpersonal skills
- ability to think and communicate clearly, organize and prioritize in high pressure situations
- basic knowledge of the restaurant's menu, ingredients, and cooking techniques
- knowledgeable of basic sanitation
- knowledgeable of computer operations and ordering procedures
- ability to absorb large amounts of information quickly
- able to multitask successfully
- ability to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
Job Duties
- Monitors guests entering and exiting dining area
- graciously greets guests upon their arrival
- maintains an accurate, fair and up-to-date waitlist and seating chart
- informs guests when their table is ready
- escorts guests to their seats, provides menus to guests, and informs them of the name of their server
- utilizes Open Table to take reservations, reviews the daily reservation book, and seats guests without reservations
- has a complete working knowledge of the menus and daily unavailable items
- familiar with frequent guests and their preferences
- directs seating rotation within the restaurant to ensure smooth workflow
- familiar with server stations, assignments, timing patterns, and workload capacity
- balances customer flow among service stations considering guest requests
- oversees functioning of dining room during meal service, relays information to service personnel, and requests feedback from guests
- ensures congenial dining room atmosphere
- answers dining room telephone, takes reservations and messages
- handles guest service issues promptly and reports to Restaurant Manager on Duty
- completes table checks and operates cash register
- reconciles cash till at start and end of shift
- maintains cleanliness of workstation and surrounding areas
- ensures continuous presence at the host stand
- communicates guest preferences verbally and through printed chits
- proactively notifies management of possible seating delays
- assists servers and bus persons as customer traffic flow allows
- wears required uniform and meets grooming and dress policies
- conducts oneself professionally within guest view
- maintains communication and teamwork with coworkers and supervisors
- adheres to company and department procedures, policies, expectations, and quality standards
