The role of Host Person within the Food and Beverage department is crucial to ensuring the quality and efficiency of the guest experience at the Chalkboard Restaurant. Reporting directly to the Restaurant Manager, the Host Person serves as the first point of contact for guests, setting the tone for their dining experience through gracious greetings, effective communication, and attentive service. This position requires a dynamic individual capable of managing multiple responsibilities such as monitoring guest flow, maintaining an accurate waitlist and seating chart, taking reservations using OpenTable, and anticipating seating delays proactively. The Host Person must exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, a thorough knowledge of the menu including unavailable items, and familiarity with frequent guests to provide tailored service.
Beyond greeting and seating guests, this role also involves collaborating closely with the restaurant team to balance seating rotation ensuring an efficient workflow, providing feedback to service staff based on guest satisfaction, and handling guest service issues promptly and gracefully. The Host Person is responsible for operating the cash register, reconciling cash at shift changes, maintaining cleanliness at the host station, and adhering strictly to all company policies and quality standards. Teamwork, professionalism, and excellent communication are essential, as this role involves constant interaction with guests, servers, management, and other team members. Physical demands include the ability to stand and walk throughout lengthy shifts, lift dining trays and other items up to 40 pounds, and maintain a strong presence in the dining area to manage guest needs effectively.

Job Requirements
- Must be at least sixteen years old (at least 21 years old to serve alcoholic beverages)
- previous experience as a server preferred
- must successfully complete restaurant training course
- high school diploma or GED preferred or currently enrolled in secondary education
- at least 1 year of experience with restaurant or customer service experience
- fluency in reading, writing, and spoken English
- excellent personal presentation and interpersonal skills
- ability to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers, and supervisors
- ability to manage high-pressure situations
- basic knowledge of menus and property details
- ability to operate computer and ordering systems
- ability to multitask
- excellent attendance and punctuality

- closed toe, non-canvas and non-skid soled shoes required

Job Duties
- Monitors guests entering and exiting dining area
- graciously greets guests upon their arrival
- maintains an accurate, fair and up-to-date waitlist and seating chart
- informs guests when their table is ready
- escorts guests to their seats, provides menus to guests, and informs them of the name of their server
- utilizes OpenTable to take reservations, reviews the daily reservation book, and seats guests without reservations
- has a complete working knowledge of the menus and guest preferences
- directs seating rotation to ensure smooth workflow
- oversees the dining room during meal service, relaying information and ensuring a congenial atmosphere
- answers dining room telephone and takes reservations and messages
- handles guest service issues promptly and reports to manager
- operates cash register and reconciles cash till
- maintains cleanliness of workstation
- ensures constant presence at host stand
- communicates guest preferences to service team
- proactively notifies management of seating delays
- assists servers and bus persons as needed
