Job Description
Denny's is a renowned full-service restaurant brand recognized nationwide for its commitment to delivering a welcoming dining experience with all-day breakfast and a varied menu offering comfort food favorites. Established as a trusted name in the casual dining sector, Denny's creates an inviting atmosphere for families, travelers, and local guests alike. The company operates numerous locations across the country, each dedicated to upholding high standards of customer service and hospitality that reflect the brand's legacy and values. The hosts and hostesses at Denny's play a crucial role in ensuring the guest experience begins on a positive note, as they are often the first team members guests interact with upon entering the restaurant. This position is typically hourly, with wages determined by multiple factors such as location, brand standards, experience, education, and hours worked.
As a Host or Hostess at Denny's, the individual is responsible for greeting guests warmly and managing the waitlist and seating arrangements to promote smooth and efficient front-of-house operations. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly demeanor to create a positive first impression and foster a hospitable environment. This position reports directly to the Restaurant Manager, General Manager, or Manager on Duty, and serves as a vital link between guests and the service team. Duties focus heavily on guest interaction, communication, and operational support, including escorting guests to their tables, informing them about wait times, and assisting with basic guest requests. Hosts also bear responsibility for monitoring the dining room activity to optimize seating and balance server workloads, ensuring both guests and staff have an efficient and pleasant experience.
Beyond guest reception and seating management, the Host/Hostess is expected to maintain cleanliness and organization of the host stand, lobby, and entryways, along with helping with table clearing and resetting when necessary. Physical demands include standing and walking for long periods, with occasional lifting and moving of menus and seating supplies. The work environment can be busy and fast-paced, requiring the ability to multi-task, adapt to changing guest flow, and communicate calmly and clearly under pressure. The role also demands teamwork and professionalism, with collaboration between servers, cooks, and management being essential to maintain a seamless dining atmosphere. Regular attendance, punctuality, and a positive attitude are core expectations for successful candidates.
Denny's embraces diversity and offers reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities, supporting an inclusive workplace culture. The schedule for this role is flexible and may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays according to business needs. Overall, this position offers an attractive opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hospitality experience in a well-established restaurant brand, with the chance to develop customer service skills and grow within the organization.
