The role of the AM - Dietary Server at Bethesda Senior Living Communities is a vital position that supports the delivery of exceptional meal service to residents, families, and guests. This role encompasses oversight of meal service areas while ensuring prompt and courteous service, professional presentation, and adherence to strict sanitation and safety standards. The Dietary Server is responsible for coordinating with various departments including health services and culinary teams to maintain a smooth and efficient dining experience. This position operates in a community-centered setting and requires excellent interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, and a servant-hearted attitude in line with Bethesda’s mission.

This position is a day shift role with weekend rotation, predominantly involving morning duties to prepare meal environments and supervise food service. The Dietary Server plays a key supervisory role by assisting the Culinary Services Director in training and managing staff, delegating responsibilities to health services personnel, and ensuring compliance with community policies. Responsibilities include managing dining room setup, assisting with reservations, ensuring food and beverage quality, and maintaining confidentiality and dignity for all residents.

Applicants for this position should have prior experience in food production and service, sanitation, and safety, with a high school diploma or equivalent minimum education level. The ability to lift and handle physical tasks is essential as care for elderly residents may require physical assistance. Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Oversee meal service to residents, families, and guests
  • Ensure quality customer service by designated community staff including Care Partners and Medication Aides
  • Communicate with community leadership to ensure adequate meal service coverage
  • Assist Culinary Services Director with staff training on food service policies and procedures
  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Direct resident, family, and guest feedback to community leadership
  • Delegate and ensure completion of pre-service and post-service work
  • Assign sections and tables to health service staff for timely service
  • Oversee dining room cleaning and preparation for restaurant-style appearance
  • Reset tables and linens and ensure condiment stations are filled
  • Maintain drink station and salad bar setup according to policy
  • Take meal orders and ensure excellent customer service
  • Monitor drink refills per resident and guest requests
  • Serve and oversee service ensuring residents’ choices are met
  • Manage guest reservations and prepare the Private Dining Room
  • Complete all cleaning checklists and responsibilities
  • Set up and deliver room trays as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and support residents’ rights
  • Maintain professional appearance and positive customer service environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
