Job Description

Huey's is a locally owned and operated restaurant that has been a cherished part of the Memphis community for over 50 years. Established in 1970 in Midtown Memphis, Huey's is famous for its unique blend of blues music, refreshing brews, and mouth-watering burgers. The restaurant has earned a reputable spot in the Mid-South region as a family-owned establishment that prioritizes excellent customer service, community outreach, and a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Known affectionately for its quality food and distinctive vibe, Huey's has consistently been voted the Best Burger in Memphis since 1984, a testament to its dedication to taste and quality. Former owner Thomas Boggs devoted more than three decades to the business, fostering a legacy of commitment and passion that his children continue to uphold today. This history has cultivated a fun, flexible, and laid-back work environment where employees are encouraged to express their own individuality while contributing to a strong team ethos.

The role of a host or hostess at Huey's is a vital one, serving as the first point of contact for guests entering the restaurant. This position requires a friendly and professional demeanor as the host or hostess warmly greets customers, provides accurate wait time estimates, and seats guests promptly or places them on a waiting list if needed. Beyond greeting guests, the host/hostess manages seating to optimize workload balance among wait staff and ensures a seamless dining experience from arrival to departure. During slower periods, hosts and hostesses support the serving team by bussing tables, running food, and maintaining overall cleanliness of the dining area. This multi-faceted role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both customers and team members.

Additionally, the Manager On Duty (MOD) undertaking host/hostess responsibilities administers COVID-19 protocols to ensure the safety of both guests and staff. As part of their duties, the MOD may also assist in the takeout area, managing all takeout orders by answering phones courteously, verifying orders for completeness, and ensuring that all necessary accompaniments like sauces, utensils, and napkins are included. This position demands reliability, good judgment, and an ability to handle multiple customer interactions efficiently.

Huey's offers a competitive hourly wage of $12.00 and a variety of employee benefits designed to support team members both on and off the clock. Inclusive of medical, vision, dental, and term life insurance (where applicable), these benefits demonstrate the restaurant's commitment to employee wellbeing. With free employee meals during shifts and a generous 50% discount off-clock, Huey's fosters a supportive environment where employees feel valued. Moreover, additional benefits like short and long-term disability, 401-K options, and an employee assistance program help secure employees' futures and provide support through challenges.

Working at Huey's means joining a team that honors its long-standing tradition of hospitality while adapting to current needs with flexibility and heart. Candidates suited for this role are those who enjoy interacting with the public, work well within a team, and take pride in delivering outstanding customer service. The restaurant promotes an equal opportunity working environment where all qualified applicants are considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other legally protected category. If you want to be a part of a Memphis institution with a strong community spirit and a fun, inclusive atmosphere, the host/hostess position at Huey's could be an excellent fit for you.
