The Host position at the Monterey Beach Hotel in Monterey, CA, is an hourly role integral to ensuring a positive dining experience for all guests. The host acts as the first point of contact by welcoming and seating guests promptly and assisting servers throughout the dining process. This role also supports the cashier with payment collection and end-of-shift financial responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be attentive to guest needs, knowledgeable about the menus and specials, aware of state liquor laws, and dedicated to delivering high standards of customer service. Additional duties include reservation management, quality control of menus, and maintaining overall guest satisfaction. The position requires flexibility in working hours, physical stamina, and excellent communication skills to interact effectively with guests and staff. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Flexible to work long and varied hours
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and stand throughout entire shift
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to listen, understand, and clarify concerns
  • Friendly, courteous, and service-oriented attitude
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality
  • Adherence to personal appearance standards including uniform and nametag
  • Compliance with hotel policies for safety and operation
  • Ability to identify problems and assist in solutions
  • Initiative to anticipate guest and operational needs

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in hotel or related hospitality field preferred
  • Knowledge of menu items and specials
  • Ability to handle cash and credit card transactions accurately
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer service oriented with a friendly and courteous demeanor
  • Basic understanding of state liquor laws
  • Ability to assist and support team members
  • Effective listening and problem-solving skills

Job Duties

  • Greet and seat guests at appropriate tables in a timely manner
  • Be attentive of guests’ needs assist in providing a pleasant dining experience
  • Assist cashier in collection of money or credit cards from guests and servers as needed
  • Know how to prepare cashier report at the end of the shift
  • Pay out servers’ and service attendants’ tips if appropriate
  • Know how to properly take reservations for outlets
  • Ensure quality control of menus with regard to cleanliness and appearance
  • Perform opening and closing duties according to established sidework checklist
  • Have a complete knowledge of standards of service for receiving a room service order
  • Have a thorough knowledge of menus and current specials in all applicable departments
  • Assist servers and cashiers in the servicing of guests as needed
  • Know and understand the state liquor laws
  • Ensure overall guest satisfaction
