The Host/Hostess role at Ruth's Chris Steak House is critical as the first point of contact for guests. Reporting to the General Manager, the Host/Hostess warmly welcomes guests, manages the flow of the restaurant, coordinates seating arrangements, and handles reservations with professionalism and care. This position demands a friendly demeanor, excellent communication skills, and a passion for hospitality that reflects the brand's commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences.

The Host/Hostess maintains the organization and cleanliness of the hostess stand and lobby throughout their shift, communicates guest concerns to managers, answers phone calls, and processes reservations with accuracy. They escort guests to their tables, present menus, and work collaboratively with the service team to ensure a smooth dining experience. The role requires attentiveness to waiting times, updating waitlists accordingly, and contributing to teamwork that enhances the overall service excellence.

This position also demands physical stamina, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 25 pounds, and performing various movements such as bending and reaching to manage hostess stand supplies. Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills are essential to maintaining a positive dining environment and managing guest relations effectively. Candidates must complete the restaurant’s training program and adhere to all operating standards, policies, and procedures to uphold the high-quality service Ruth's Chris is known for.

Job Duties

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the hostess stand and lobby area throughout the shift
  • Communicate guest concerns and dissatisfaction to the Manager on duty
  • Answer the telephone promptly and courteously, take and document reservations accurately
  • Greet and recognize arriving guests, obtain guest names, and direct them to appropriate waiting areas
  • Escort guests to their tables and present menus
  • Assist team members to enhance guests' dining experience
  • Accurately quote waiting times and maintain the wait list, inform Manager of delays
  • Complete opening and side work duties promptly
  • Assist Manager on duty with reservation planning and seating assignments
  • Uphold company standards and operating guidelines
  • Obtain and update staffing and station assignments
