The role of Hostess involves not just greeting guests but orchestrating the seamless flow of front-of-house activity. Critical to this role is effective communication with the Manager on Duty to coordinate seating and manage the guest experience smoothly. The Hostess is responsible for answering phone calls, handling reservations using the Open Table database, and managing special functions within the restaurant. Maintaining a tidy and welcoming host desk area, including neatly arranged menus, contributes to the overall positive impression and operational flow.
Beyond the initial greeting, the Hostess ensures guests are escorted promptly to their tables, menus are presented courteously, and any inquiries or special requests are managed efficiently. The role requires a combination of multitasking skills, attention to detail, and a friendly demeanor to create a memorable and positive first impression. The Hostess acts as the first point of contact, ensuring open lines of communication among guests, management, and other team members, which is pivotal in addressing guest needs and enhancing satisfaction.
The physicality of the position involves sitting, standing, reaching, bending, and stooping, alongside the ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 40 pounds. Job Requirements
- High school diploma
- Ability to sit, stand, reach, bend and stoop
- Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 40 pounds

Job Qualifications
- Knowledge of restaurant operations service equipment and guest relations
- Ability to read the English language to fully comprehend guest requests, memos, reservations, promotional materials, event orders and similar written materials
- Ability to move throughout a crowded room to seat guests
- Ability to effectively deal with customer complaints and concerns in a friendly and positive manner
- Ability to listen to the nature of the concern, demonstrate empathy with the customer and provide positive and proactive solutions
- Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available)
- Full flexibility to accommodate varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the facility
Job Duties
- Meet and greet guests as they arrive and escort them to their table and present menu
- Maintain host desk and all menus tidy, clean, neat
- Receive, record and make any necessary arrangements for reservations and special functions in the restaurant
- Maintain an open line of communication between guests, management and other team members
- Observe all safety procedures during the execution of assigned duties
- Work efficiently as a team
