Job Description

Denny's is a well-established full-service restaurant brand known for its welcoming atmosphere, classic American diner fare, and commitment to providing excellent customer service. As a popular dining destination, Denny's operates numerous locations across the country, catering to diverse communities and families. The company emphasizes a friendly environment where guests feel valued and cared for from the moment they enter the restaurant. With dedication to quality food and service, Denny's continues to be a preferred choice for casual dining and family meals. Denny's supports the growth and development of its team members, offering opportunities to gain experience and advance within the hospitality industry.

The Host/Hostess position at Denny's is a crucial front-of-house role that ensures every guest receives a positive first impression and smooth service throughout their dining experience. The host/hostess is responsible for greeting guests promptly and courteously, managing wait lists, assigning tables, and supporting front-of-house operations. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills to respond to guest inquiries and assist with requests efficiently. Working under the Restaurant Manager, General Manager, or Manager on Duty, the host/hostess plays an essential part in maintaining the organized and inviting atmosphere that Denny's is known for.

As the first point of contact for guests, the host/hostess creates a welcoming environment by demonstrating professionalism, friendliness, and attention to detail. The position involves managing seating arrangements to balance server workloads, monitoring dining room activity, and ensuring that seating status and guest needs are communicated clearly to servers and management. During busy periods, the host/hostess supports service staff by assisting with tasks like clearing and resetting tables. Additionally, the role includes maintaining cleanliness of the host stand, entryways, lobby, and wait areas to uphold restaurant standards and guest comfort.

Physically, this job requires standing and walking for extended periods, bending, stooping, carrying menus and seating supplies, and using hands for handling seating charts and POS or wait-list systems. The host/hostess operates in a dynamic work environment exposed to noise, crowds, and occasional wet or slippery floors, with varying schedules that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Cognitive demands include managing multiple guest interactions simultaneously, maintaining clear and courteous communication, and adapting quickly to changes in guest flow and restaurant conditions.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy teamwork, demonstrate reliability and punctuality, and possess strong customer service skills. Whether you are new to the hospitality field or have prior experience, Denny's provides a welcoming place to build your career in a fast-paced, supportive setting. While previous hospitality experience is preferred, it is not required; the company values a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences. The role is an excellent entry point into the restaurant industry, offering hands-on experience and personal growth opportunities within one of America’s most iconic dining brands.
