The Jamaica Bay Inn is currently seeking a part-time Host/Hostess to join its dynamic food and beverage team. The Host/Hostess serves as the first point of contact for guests arriving at the restaurant, playing a critical role in setting the tone for their visit by providing a friendly, cheerful, and courteous welcome. Responsibilities include greeting guests, managing seating arrangements, handling reservations, and maintaining the reservation book accurately. This position requires excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with guests and team members alike.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring smooth restaurant operations by assisting in restaurant preparation and cleanliness, monitoring guest needs throughout their dining experience, and maintaining comprehensive knowledge of menu items and beverage selections. When the Restaurant Manager or Supervisor is unavailable, the Host/Hostess will oversee all aspects of the restaurant, ensuring standards of service are consistently met. Additionally, the role involves addressing guest inquiries about in-house and local events and maintaining good guest relations. The Host/Hostess will also be responsible for inspecting tables and stations to ensure proper setup, handling telephone calls courteously, and assisting other departments as needed to enhance the overall hotel and restaurant performance.

Job Duties
- Maintain a friendly, cheerful and courteous demeanor at all times while providing personalized service to guests
- communicate effectively with guests and fellow team members
- cheerfully and courteously greet and escort guests to tables and assist in seating at tables
- present menus and extend congenialities ensuring restaurant's standards of service at all times
- take, record and confirm restaurant reservations/cancellation as specified in departmental standards
- assist in preparing the restaurant for service and maintaining the cleanliness of the dining room at all times
- assist in monitoring the guests’ needs and all phases of the restaurant experience
- oversee all aspects of restaurant during absence of Restaurant Manager and/or Supervisor
- maintain complete knowledge of all menu items, specials, liquor/beer/non-alcoholic selections available in the restaurant
- maintain good guest relations by keeping abreast of all in-house and area functions in order to answer questions and concerns with timely and knowledgeable responses
- inspect tables and stations ensuring that all set ups meet the department Check throughout meal period
- relay deficiencies to respective team members and follow up on corrections
- answer restaurant telephone courteously and efficiently as specified in department standards
- extend courteous departures as guests leave the restaurant
- ensure tables are cleaned and reset according to standards
- report any missing/found articles or equipment/property damage to the Housekeeping Department
- provide assistance to other team members and departments to contribute to the best overall performance of the department, restaurant and Hotel
- perform other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by Management
