Job Description

Children's of Alabama is a leading pediatric healthcare provider dedicated to delivering exceptional medical care to children and their families. Established with a mission to nurture and heal, Children's of Alabama stands out as a beacon of compassionate healthcare services in the region. Their commitment extends beyond clinical excellence to encompass comprehensive support services, including an outstanding Food Service Department that plays a vital role in patient care. This department is staffed by Culinary Team Members who are not only skilled in food preparation but are also driven by a deep sense of empathy and dedication to improving the patient experience through nutrition. The Food Service team at Children’s of Alabama operates with a core value of respect, innovation, and serving others with compassion, ensuring that every meal served is tailored to meet the dietary needs and preferences of their young patients. This approach helps foster a healing environment that supports both physical and emotional well-being.

The Food Service role within Children's of Alabama involves preparing, assembling, and delivering patient meals and snacks in strict adherence to physician-prescribed diet orders. This position requires strong attention to detail to ensure dietary compliance and patient satisfaction. A significant part of the role includes managing patient menus by distributing and collecting them within specified timeframes, as well as assessing patient feedback through surveys to help enhance food service quality continuously. Working full-time on a rotating shift schedule—including Monday to Friday, alternating weekends, and holidays—this role demands flexibility, reliability, and a team-oriented mindset. The environment promotes positive interpersonal relations among Health System staff, department coworkers, and patients’ families to foster teamwork, efficiency, and a supportive atmosphere. Employees in this role need the ability to communicate effectively in English, both spoken and written, to fulfill their duties successfully.

This full-time role in the Food Service department at the McWane Building on the Main Campus empowers team members to contribute meaningfully to patient care by ensuring nutrition services are delivered efficiently and safely. The workstations are well-equipped with all necessary ingredients and equipment, ensuring team members can perform their tasks effectively. Safety procedures and production guidelines are integral to the training process, ensuring that every Culinary Team Member is prepared to uphold the highest standards of service and hygiene. As part of their culture, Children’s of Alabama emphasizes excellent customer service and maintaining a positive demeanor towards guests, customers, peers, and other stakeholders. This role is a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to make a real impact in healthcare by combining culinary skills with compassionate service. It offers a supportive work environment and on-the-job training to help employees develop into successful healthcare professionals and be recognized as healthcare heroes within the organization. Together, the Food Service team at Children’s of Alabama exemplifies dedication to quality, safety, and exceptional patient-centered service through food.
