Job Description
Hai Hospitality is a dynamic and multi-concept restaurant group headquartered in Austin, Texas, known for its exceptional culinary experiences and dedication to hospitality. The group operates several innovative and highly acclaimed restaurant concepts including Uchi, Uchiko, Uchiba, and Loro. These establishments have garnered widespread recognition for their creative menus, exemplary service, and vibrant atmosphere that blends traditional Japanese influences with contemporary dining trends. Hai Hospitality prides itself on fostering a work culture that emphasizes pride in craftsmanship, creativity, and outstanding work ethic. Employees here are not just part of a team but part of a community that strives to deliver memorable guest experiences through a commitment to excellence and genuine hospitality. Their operations span several states, including Arizona and Florida, where locations actively participate in E-Verify to ensure employment eligibility. As an equal opportunity employer, Hai Hospitality is dedicated to diversity and inclusion, ensuring fair and respectful treatment of all employees in a supportive work environment. The company offers multiple employee benefits, including medical, dental, vision, accident insurance options, an Employee Assistance Program with mental health services, employer-matched 401k savings, and dining discounts, reflecting their commitment to employee well-being and career growth. Additionally, employees have excellent opportunities for advancement, as the company prefers to promote from within, reinforcing a culture of internal development and loyalty.
The role of Host at Hai Hospitality, particularly in the Uchi, Uchiko, and Uchiba restaurants, is a vital position centered on customer service and operational support. Hosts act as the initial point of contact for guests, managing reservations, welcoming walk-in patrons, and setting accurate and positive expectations for dining experiences. They are responsible for managing the flow and pacing of the dining room, working closely with servers and managers to optimize seating and table turnovers. Hosts gain valuable knowledge about Japanese cuisine and beverage offerings such as beer, wine, and sake through peer-led training programs. This knowledge enables them to provide engaging and informative cocktail service for guests waiting for their tables, enhancing the overall guest experience. The role requires strong communication skills to build rapport with guests, keep them informed, and handle any inquiries or special requests, ensuring that every visitor feels valued and well cared for. Physical stamina is essential in this fast-paced environment, as hosts are often required to stand and move for extended periods, lift and carry items up to 50 pounds, and safely operate kitchen equipment. The ability to work effectively under pressure, maintain a neat and organized workspace, and collaborate well with coworkers are also critical aspects of the position. Hosts embody the spirit of Hai Hospitality by maintaining professionalism, a positive attitude, and attention to detail, all while contributing to a warm, welcoming atmosphere for guests. The average earning potential for hosts at Uchi is approximately $22 per hour, which includes both base pay and tips, making it a rewarding role financially as well. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about hospitality and Japanese cuisine to join a reputable and growing establishment that values growth, teamwork, and exceptional guest experiences.
