Job Description

Orchard Cove is a renowned senior living community dedicated to providing exceptional care and hospitality to its residents. This position is for a Host/Hostess who will play a crucial role in orchestrating a seamless dining experience within the community's dining rooms. The role primarily involves courteously greeting and seating residents and their guests, managing dining room reservations, and coordinating the activities of food servers to ensure efficient and responsive service. This individual is responsible for maintaining a neat and orderly dining environment and handling guest checks with accuracy and professionalism, ensuring that all financial transactions are correctly processed before being forwarded to the Finance Department.

The ideal candidate will possess a working knowledge of food service procedures, including setup, scheduling, side work, and service standards. They will exhibit strong leadership capabilities to run shifts independently and supervise diverse dining room personnel when management is absent. This includes training and orienting new personnel and maintaining detailed reports of each shift. The Host/Hostess must stay informed about local and state food safety codes, including sanitation, food preparation, storage, and allergen handling, to uphold the highest standards of hygiene and safety. The candidate will also cultivate positive communication with residents, staff, and management and actively respond to residents' dining preferences and meal needs.

Additional responsibilities include collaborating with the Front Desk and Marketing staff to support hospitality initiatives and marketing efforts, as well as taking ownership of resident satisfaction regarding dining services. The role requires a genuine interest in geriatric care and strict adherence to Orchard Cove's cultural beliefs emphasizing respect, compassion, and empathy.

Employment for this role is on-site with specific working hours scheduled mainly in the late afternoon and evening on Wednesdays and Fridays, and a longer shift on Saturdays. The salary range spans from $35,692.80 to $53,539.20, offering competitive compensation reflective of experience and qualifications. This position requires flexibility to work weekends and holidays and readiness to perform duties that may involve standing for extended periods and engaging in physical activity such as lifting and reaching within a clean and safe environment. Overall, this role is ideal for individuals who are service-oriented, organized, and committed to contributing positively to the lives of senior residents through excellent dining service operations.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and to walk short distances
  • Frequent stooping, reaching, and lifting
  • Works in a clean, well-lit, and ventilated environment
  • Possible work hazards include cuts, burns, slips, and falls
  • Follow uniform policy and good personal hygiene

Job Qualifications

  • Able to work flexible hours and days, including weekends and holidays
  • High school diploma necessary
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a wait staff and bus staff at Orchard Cove or in an upscale hotel or restaurant
  • Maintain current ServSafe and Mass Food Allergen certification
  • Ability to pass a CORI background check and physical exam, including TB test
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in verbal or written form

Job Duties

  • Courteously and comfortably seat residents and their guests
  • Responsible for guest check control and accuracy before sending them to the finance department
  • Delegates and inspects the side work
  • Manages dining room reservations
  • Assists during the shift with serving and bussing as needed
  • Has a working knowledge of resident dining tendencies, meal needs, and preferences
  • Works with front desk and marketing staff on hospitality table and marketing guests
  • Assists with the training and orientation of new dining room personnel
  • Acts as a supervisor in the absence of management or supervisors
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as needed to ensure the smooth running of the dining room
  • Accurately completes a nightly host/hostess report
