Job Description
Westin/Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa is a distinguished hospitality establishment located in scenic Carlsbad, California, known for its exceptional guest services and luxurious accommodations. Owned by Grand Pacific Hotel Services, L.P., this resort is a destination for travelers seeking comfort, relaxation, and memorable dining experiences along the beautiful California coastline. The resort prides itself on delivering impeccable service standards that blend hospitality with a welcoming and polished atmosphere.
As a premier resort and spa, the Westin/Sheraton Carlsbad offers a dynamic and fast-paced work environment, reflective of the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry. The resort promotes continuous learning and development, requiring employees to attend scheduled training sessions and meetings to ensure consistent service quality. Team members are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, appearance, and work ethic to maintain the resort's esteemed reputation.
The role of the Dining Room Host at Westin/Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa is critical to delivering outstanding dining experiences for guests. This position is responsible for managing the seating flow within the dining area, directing guests to their tables through a station rotation system to ensure balanced service. The host plays a pivotal role in communication between guests and servers, ensuring that servers are updated about their assigned tables and guest needs. This requires attentiveness and proactive management of dining room operations to maintain a smooth and organized environment.
The host also manages the reservation book, handles incoming telephone calls, and records reservations and special requests, all while maintaining meticulous records and logs, including use of the Open Table reservation system. The role demands excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as a thorough knowledge of menu items, prices, and service procedures to assist guests efficiently.
Physical stamina is required, as the position involves standing for prolonged periods, mobility in a limited space, and occasional lifting of trays weighing up to 30 pounds. Attention to detail is paramount for setting tables appropriately and maintaining cleanliness and organization of the dining area during peak service times. Punctuality and adherence to attendance standards are mandatory, underscoring the importance of reliability in this guest-facing role.
This role is ideal for candidates with experience in customer service or hospitality, preferably in restaurants or hotels. Familiarity with the Open Table program and knowledge of wine are considered advantageous. High school education or equivalent is preferred. The host must be able to understand and communicate effectively in the primary workplace language, ensuring clear interaction with guests and team members.
The Dining Room Host position is a vital role within the Westin/Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa team, contributing to the seamless operation of the dining experience and enhancing the overall satisfaction of guests. The resort values employees who can maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance in accordance with resort standards and who demonstrate commitment through regular attendance and adherence to company policies. By joining this team, employees become part of a respected establishment that prioritizes guest satisfaction, teamwork, and professional growth.
