Job Description
Out West Restaurant Group is the largest franchisee of Outback Steakhouse in the United States. Outback Steakhouse itself is an Australian theme restaurant that launched in March of 1988, known for its commitment to serious food and fun dining experiences. Out West Restaurant Group upholds a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and mutual support among their employees, known as "Outbackers." The company prides itself on treating both customers and employees "Just Right," fostering a welcoming atmosphere akin to hosting guests in a home. This approach drives their success and forms a strong foundation for ongoing growth and community involvement. The organization emphasizes fairness, respect, and opportunity, strictly adhering to equal employment opportunity laws without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or other protected categories.
The role available at Out West Restaurant Group is an hourly, non-exempt position paying $16.90 per hour plus tips. It focuses largely on guest service and support within the restaurant environment. Employees in this role are fundamental to creating memorable first and last impressions on guests and ensuring an AUS-SOME dining experience that makes each guest’s day better. This position entails greeting and seating guests, assisting servers, maintaining a clean and inviting dining room, and supporting all areas of restaurant operations as needs arise. The role requires a commitment to food safety, cleanliness, sanitation, and job safety standards.
Prospective candidates will find a hospitable work culture that recognizes hard work, effort, perseverance, and leadership, with opportunities for growth and advancement, including a Shift Leader training program. The company offers comprehensive health insurance benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage for eligible employees, paid sick leave per California law, and meal discounts. Employees enjoy scheduling flexibility designed to balance work and life while supporting excellent guest service. Additionally, the company is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, allowing team members to spend quality time with their families. Participation in the company’s Employee Assistance Program is also available, reflecting the organization's commitment to employee well-being.
Working as an Outbacker means engaging in a fast-paced environment that requires physical stamina such as standing or walking for up to eight hours per shift, bending, squatting, and manual dexterity for handling utensils and technology systems. The role also involves meaningful interactions with guests through genuine conversations and proactive hospitality. Knowledge of the menu to recommend and upsell products adds to the guest experience. Serving as the face of Outback Steakhouse in this role entails taking phone calls professionally and leading the lobby experience to uphold brand standards.
Out West Restaurant Group not only focuses on the business but also plays an active role in the community. They are recognized for their contributions to local nonprofits like California Care and CORE, supporting restaurant employees and their families in tough times. Awards such as the Monitor 200 Award for four consecutive years and the Franchisee of the Year award in 2022 showcase their commitment to excellence both in business and community service.
Overall, joining Out West Restaurant Group means becoming part of a dedicated team where fun and career development go hand in hand. The company welcomes applications continuously, eager to find individuals who bring enthusiasm, dedication, and a desire to grow within the hospitality industry.
