The role of Host/Hostess at Sonesta is pivotal in shaping the first impressions and overall guest experience within the hotel's dining environments. This position is responsible for warmly greeting guests, escorting them to their tables, and providing clean menus promptly, reflecting the company’s dedication to professional and friendly service. The Host/Hostess ensures all service standards are meticulously upheld as outlined in the company’s Service Manual, which guides every aspect of guest interaction and operational procedures. Beyond greeting guests, the Host/Hostess plays an essential role in maintaining cleanliness and organization in the service areas, participating in ongoing training programs, and assisting in training new staff members, which fosters a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to manage sidework and paperwork diligently are crucial components of this position. The Host/Hostess is expected to embody Sonesta’s guest service model, known as the GUEST model, which includes Greeting everyone warmly, Using eye and ear contact with guest names, Establishing and anticipating guest needs, Solving and owning all requests or complaints, and Thanking all guests to ensure they feel valued. This role requires a passionate and engaging individual who is truly invested in delivering memorable experiences with professionalism and respect towards colleagues and guests alike.

The Host/Hostess position offers a pay rate of $19.27 per hour and is often covered under union agreements, such as Unite Here Local 17. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in hospitality or customer service is advantageous
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Capable of lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment
  • Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • Greet guests, escort them to tables, and provide menus in a timely fashion
  • Perform proper checkout at the end of shift as outlined in side work checklist
  • Follow all appropriate systems outlined in the Service Manual
  • Maintain service standards set forth in the Service Manual
  • Follow guidelines for guest recovery, as necessary
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of service area and tools
  • Return all items to their properly zoned location
  • Use tools in the proper manner as outlined in the Service Guidelines
  • Attend all ongoing training sessions
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new staff
  • Follow all prescribed systems of organization and cleanliness
  • Maintain levels of quality and service as outlined in the service manual
  • Complete all before, during and after shift paperwork
  • Follow all opening and closing checklists and sidework
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting in other areas of the hotel when needed
  • Build solid relationships with colleagues
  • Treat colleagues with respect and dignity
  • Deliver passionate and engaging service to guests
  • Recognize and anticipate guests’ unique needs to exceed expectations
