Job Description

Local Edition is a unique subterranean cocktail bar nestled beneath Market Street within the historic Hearst Building. This sophisticated establishment draws inspiration from the vibrant newspaper industry of the 1950s and 1960s, offering guests a nostalgic ambiance accentuated by vintage paper presses and historical clippings sourced from San Francisco's rich archives. Known for its vibrant atmosphere where live music complements the classic decor, Local Edition provides a distinct experience blending history and modern-day hospitality. The bar is a hidden gem in the city, attracting clientele who appreciate a refined cocktail experience rooted in a storied past. The location's setting beneath Market Street makes it a captivating spot for those seeking both ambiance and exceptional service in the heart of San Francisco.

The establishment is currently seeking a Host to join their team for shifts taking place Thursday through Saturday, from 3:30 pm to 2:30 am. This role is integral to maintaining the smooth operation of the bar’s front of house. As a Host at Local Edition, you will be the welcoming face greeting guests and managing guest flow efficiently through a reservation platform. The position requires not only a friendly and professional demeanor but also the ability to coordinate between guests and the restaurant floor team to ensure a seamless dining experience. Responsibilities include active guest engagement, monitoring coat check organization, and handling communications via phone, email, and special event inquiries. The Host position also involves assisting with opening duties and end-of-day close-out processes as needed.

Local Edition values individuals with previous experience in the restaurant, bar, or hotel industries, but candidates eager to learn and grow within the hospitality sector are equally encouraged to apply. The role demands excellent customer service skills, adaptability to diverse guest needs, and strong communication abilities in written English. Successful candidates are expected to be at least 21 years old, possess or be willing to obtain a California Food Handler’s Certification, and complete Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) training. Physical endurance is also a consideration, as the role requires standing for up to eight hours per shift.

This position offers an hourly wage of $19.18 plus tips, along with company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision benefits available to qualifying employees. Additionally, a matching 401(k) retirement plan is provided to eligible team members. Local Edition operates as an at-will, equal opportunity employer committed to inclusivity and compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws. They foster a workplace environment where all applicants are considered fairly without discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristics.
