Job Description
The Emerald Queen Casino is a prominent gaming and entertainment establishment operated by the Puyallup Tribe, located in Washington State. It offers a variety of gaming experiences, dining options, and entertainment for its guests, positioning itself as a leading casino destination in the Pacific Northwest. The casino is well-regarded for its commitment to providing exceptional service, a dynamic work environment, and offering comprehensive benefits to its employees. Being a part of the Emerald Queen Casino means joining a team dedicated to excellence, integrity, and community engagement, with a respect for the cultural heritage of the Puyallup Tribe. The environment is fast-paced and focused on delivering superior guest experiences in a customer-focused atmosphere.
The role of Host-Hostess/Cashier at the Emerald Queen Casino is a full-time position offering a starting wage of $17.02 per hour, which increases to $17.61 per hour after successful completion of a 90-day orientation period. This position is pivotal to the guest experience, as it involves greeting visitors warmly and ensuring efficient seating within the casino's dining venues. As a key frontline employee, the Host-Hostess/Cashier is responsible not only for welcoming guests but also for maintaining reservations and assigning tables, which requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask under pressure. Additionally, this role includes calculating daily receipts, necessitating accuracy and mathematical proficiency. The position demands maintaining a neat and stocked host area, as it reflects the casino's standards of cleanliness and readiness. The successful candidate will be adept at managing a variety of duties while maintaining composure and professionalism in a busy environment that often involves exposure to a smoke-filled atmosphere.
The Emerald Queen Casino values employees who demonstrate good grooming habits and polite manners, as these qualities contribute significantly to the atmosphere of hospitality that guests expect. The Host-Hostess/Cashier must hold a valid Washington State food handler's card, evidencing compliance with health and safety regulations. Prior experience in a restaurant setting is essential, with a minimum of six months required to ensure familiarity with the pace and demands of hospitality service. Physical stamina is necessary for this role, with requirements to stand for extended periods and navigate stairs regularly. Employees must be flexible, available for day, swing, graveyard shifts, including holidays, to meet operational needs. In addition to the listed duties, the employee may perform other tasks as assigned by the department manager, reflecting the collaborative nature of the work environment.
Prospective candidates must obtain a Class III B license from the Puyallup Tribal Gaming Regulatory Office and the Washington State Gaming Commission. Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all applicants, with the exception that marijuana use will not disqualify candidates unless driving a company vehicle is a requirement. The Emerald Queen Casino is an Equal Opportunity Employer that applies Indian Preference as per Puyallup Tribe policies, and it embraces diversity and inclusion as core values. This description is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the responsibilities and requirements of the Host-Hostess/Cashier role but is not exhaustive of all possible duties and scenarios encountered during employment.
