Job Description

The Clubhouse Host (ess) position is a pivotal role within the Food & Beverage team of a private club that prides itself on delivering exemplary service to all its Members and guests. As a private club, this establishment is dedicated to creating a warm and welcoming environment where every guest feels valued and receives personalized attention. The Clubhouse Host (ess) serves as the first point of contact for Members and guests as they enter the dining areas, ensuring a memorable and seamless experience from the moment they arrive. The club's commitment to high standards of hospitality is reflected in every detail, from greeting guests promptly to managing seating arrangements with accuracy and professionalism.

The role requires a combination of attentiveness, efficiency, and detailed knowledge of the club’s dining operations. The successful candidate will greet Members and guests with warmth and courtesy, often using their last names to create a personalized greeting that enhances the welcoming atmosphere. The Host (ess) must be well-versed in the layout of all dining rooms, table numbers, seat numbers, and daily events, which enables them to seat guests promptly and efficiently while balancing server station assignments and workload to maintain smooth operations. Beyond seating guests, the Host (ess) offers assistance such as checking coats or umbrellas and helping guests into their seats with care, showing particular attention to older guests and ladies according to club customs.

This role demands excellent communication and organizational skills, as the Clubhouse Host (ess) keeps service staff informed about seating arrangements and assists with maintaining cleanliness and order in the dining area when possible. They must stay informed about daily club activities, including special events and operating hours, to provide accurate information and enhance the overall guest experience. In addition to their service duties, the Host (ess) participates in staff meetings and trainings to continually improve their skills and align with the club’s high standards.

Furthermore, familiarity with the Jonas Point of Sale (POS) system is necessary to support order management and coordination with the kitchen and expo stations. The Clubhouse Host (ess) also handles the delivery of to-go orders, ensuring that Members and guests receive their food promptly and accurately. Physical stamina is also essential, as the role involves standing for extended periods, walking, climbing stairs, and other physical activities in a dynamic and sometimes noisy environment. Compliance with health regulations, including Hepatitis A vaccinations, underscores the club’s commitment to safety and hygiene.

Job Requirements

  • Must have the ability to comply with county health regulations regarding hepatitis a vaccinations
  • Required to stand for long periods and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, twist or reach
  • Continuous repetitive motions
  • Ability to work in hot, humid and noisy environments

Job Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Knowledge of hospitality or food and beverage industry is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of point of sale systems such as Jonas POS
  • Ability to provide courteous and prompt service
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks smoothly
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role is an asset

Job Duties

  • Greets members and guest with a warm and welcoming demeanor
  • Has intimate knowledge of all dining rooms, table numbers, seat numbers and daily events
  • Understands the server stations, their daily assignments, their personal timing patterns and their maximum workload capacity
  • Greets each guest promptly and courteously, with eye contact, a smile and good posture, using their last name whenever possible
  • Offers to check a member or guests’ coat/umbrella/hat or other cumbersome belongings
  • Guides members and guests to their reserved table pre-set for the correct number in their party
  • Helps members and guests that need assistance into their seats, holding chairs as often as possible
  • promptly seats and/or communicates with members without reservations or those waiting for others to join them
  • Informs service staff when tables have been seated in their section
  • Assists service staff, when time permits, with ensuring tables have water and are cleared of any dirty glasses, dishes or debris
  • Knowledgeable of daily club operations, including events and operating hours
  • Thanks members and guests
  • invites them to return
  • Attends staff meetings including pre-shift (line-up) sessions and training as required
  • Basic knowledge of Jonas POS system
  • Completes other appropriate work assignments as requested by the manager on duty
  • Ensures completed to-go orders received from Expo are delivered to the appropriate recipient
