The role of the host is pivotal in shaping the guest experience from the moment they arrive until they leave. As the first and last point of contact for guests, the host sets the tone for the entire restaurant visit. This position requires a person who is not only personable and welcoming but also knowledgeable about the restaurant and its operations. A successful host walks guests to their tables while engaging in friendly conversation, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The host is responsible for managing the reservation system, specifically the Tock system, ensuring smooth seating arrangements and efficient guest flow. They must be adept at handling guest inquiries, addressing complaints, and diffusing any tense situations with professionalism and grace, often involving management when necessary to maintain the highest standards of service.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a hospitality or customer service role
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively with guests and staff
  • Basic knowledge of restaurant operations
  • Willingness to learn and adapt quickly
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a hospitality or customer service role
  • Ability to communicate clearly and positively with guests and staff
  • Knowledge of reservation management systems is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle guest complaints professionally

Job Duties

  • Welcoming and greeting all guests
  • Walk guests to tables and engage in conversation while doing so
  • Responsible for knowing restaurant and company information including hours of operations, directions, awareness of neighborhood, sister properties, and names and titles of corporate employees
  • Pull out chairs and present menus individually
  • Listen to guests’ complaints and work to diffuse any unhappy guest situations
  • Utilize management to help
  • Master the operations of the Tock system
  • Complete all opening and closing side work as assigned
  • Interact with fellow employees and guests in a cheerful, professional manner
  • Communicate with the Maître’D any open tables, long waits, or guest issues
  • Responsible for recognizing regular and VIP guests
  • Courteously handle and apologize for any tables waiting past their reservation time
  • Welcome all guests with the same hospitality you would extend to guests in your home
  • Responsible for wishing all guests a warm farewell
  • Dress professionally in clean and presentable attire, and never forgetting to wear a smile
