Job Description

Umami Riot is a Boston-based restaurant group founded by Chef Tim Cushman and sake expert Nancy Cushman. The establishment is renowned for its joyful hospitality paired with uncompromising craftsmanship. Their restaurants celebrate bold flavor, precision, and a deep respect for Japanese culinary traditions that are artfully reinterpreted through a modern, Boston-focused perspective. Umami Riot is committed to rewriting the rules of hospitality by emphasizing heart, craft, and fearless creativity in every guest interaction and dining experience. This ethos is embedded in the culture across their dining venues, which blend tradition with innovation to deliver exceptional culinary experiences.

Among the distinctive venues in the group is Bianca, a vibrant restaurant known for its unique wood-fired cooking, creative craft cocktails, and warm modern hospitality. Bianca is not just a place to eat and drink — it is a place where moments are created and celebrated. The restaurant is designed to offer an inviting atmosphere whether it's a casual weeknight pizza and cocktail or an elegant celebratory dinner, every guest is treated with individualized attention, warmth, and a commitment to excellence.

The role of Host at Bianca is a pivotal position responsible for running the door with style, warmth, and undeniable presence. This position requires a confident, polished individual who creates the very first impression guests experience when they arrive. Hosts at Bianca manage the front-of-house rhythm by overseeing reservations, waitlists, and seating flow with a calm and clear sense of organization. This role involves building meaningful guest connections through effective communication, accurate wait time estimates, and a genuine ability to make guests feel seen, cared for, and excited to be part of the dining experience.

Hosts also maintain a clean, organized, and polished host stand and entryway, demonstrating attention to detail throughout opening and closing duties. Support for the dining room is integral, including tasks like table resets, floor organization, and collaboration with the team during busy services. The role demands a steady, guest-ready presence during long, high-energy shifts and requires flexibility and reliability for nights, weekends, and holidays.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who thrive connecting with people, making great first impressions, and maintaining composure in energetic environments. Successful candidates bring natural organization, clear and graceful communication skills, and pride in setting the overall tone for a memorable guest experience. They consistently show up with poise, warmth, and positive energy, contributing to the vibrant and respectful team culture at Bianca and across Umami Riot.

The position is part-time or full-time with competitive hourly pay ranging from $17 to $20 based on experience. Umami Riot offers more than a job; it offers an inclusive, supportive work environment with growth opportunities, dining discounts, and a culture rooted in respect, creativity, and heart. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) committed to reasonable accommodations for employees to fulfill their roles effectively.
