The Restaurant Host position at Saks Fifth Avenue is a key role within Saks Global's luxury dining experience. As the initial point of contact for guests, the Restaurant Host embodies sophistication and genuine warmth, setting the tone for an exceptional hospitality encounter. Stationed at the front door, the host will greet every guest with grace and professionalism, making them feel welcome in this high-end setting. The role involves not only greeting and seating guests but skillfully managing the flow of reservations and coordinating seating arrangements to balance the dining room's operational efficiency with an optimal guest experience. Collaboration with the service team is essential to ensure seamless hospitality from arrival to departure.

The Restaurant Host will be entrusted with managing luxury guest relations by maintaining an elegant presence, handling VIP and special reservation requests, and attending to telephone inquiries with impeccable etiquette. The host also supports operational aspects by monitoring dining room flow, maintaining menu presentation, managing host-related financial transactions via POS systems, and participating in daily team meetings to stay aligned with service goals and culinary specials. Physical tasks such as adjusting dining room setups may also be required.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Direct hands-on experience with OpenTable or similar reservation software is highly preferred
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with polished telephone etiquette

Job Duties

  • Maintains an elegant and attentive presence at the host stand greeting arriving and departing guests with professionalism and grace
  • Guides guests to their tables balancing wait stations to ensure optimized service flow
  • Organizes daily reservations maximizes seating capacity and balances customer traffic to optimize pacing
  • Manages VIP inquiries and handles telephone questions about hours specials and private events
  • Observes dining room flow and server performance communicating with management for seamless service
  • Maintains cleanliness and presentation of menus and menu covers
  • Adheres to accounting procedures utilizing POS for host-related transactions
  • Participates in daily pre-shift meetings staying informed about covers specials and floor adjustments
  • Assists with physical adjustments of the dining room floor moving tables chairs or highchairs as needed
  • Maintains highest level of personal hygiene and luxury presentation standards including uniform and grooming
  • Adheres to posted work schedule practicing punctuality and following restaurant procedures for schedule changes
