Job Description

Denny's is a well-established American diner chain renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and commitment to quality food served in generous portions at fair prices. Founded in 1953, Denny's has been a household name and a go-to destination for families and individuals seeking a classic dining experience that embraces openness, heritage, and excellent guest service. With locations across the country, Denny's prides itself on being more than just a restaurant – it is a community-focused establishment where guests are treated like family and team members collaborate to ensure total guest satisfaction. The company values its employees highly, seeing them as essential to delivering the warm, hospitable service that Denny's guests expect. At Denny's, the guiding principles include putting guests first, embracing diversity, being proud of the brand's history, striving for innovation and greatness, and fostering a strong sense of teamwork and mutual respect among employees. These values create a dynamic and supportive work environment where staff members are encouraged to grow and succeed together.

The role of the Host/Hostess at Denny's is integral to creating a positive first impression for guests and ensuring a seamless dining experience from entry to departure. Reporting directly to the General Manager and Restaurant Manager, the Host/Hostess greets guests promptly and courteously, manages seating arrangements using proper rotation and adhering to waitlists sensitively, and assists in meeting any special guest needs. This position demands strong interpersonal skills, a friendly and approachable demeanor, and a commitment to upholding Denny's brand standards and guiding principles. Beyond greeting and seating guests, the Host/Hostess is responsible for handling payments accurately, describing current promotions, taking initial beverage orders, and supporting other service personnel in delivering exemplary service. Efficiency and attention to detail are critical, as the role requires maintaining a clean and inviting foyer, managing supply levels such as menus, and performing side-work, including deep cleaning tasks. A successful Host/Hostess at Denny's possesses comprehensive product knowledge, understands station and floor breakdowns, and demonstrates safe cash handling along with solid telephone etiquette.

This position is physically active, requiring the ability to stand and walk throughout the shift, lift and carry up to 30 pounds, and perform routine cleaning and maintenance tasks. The role also demands the ability to operate point-of-sale systems, manage guest complaints with poise, and work collaboratively within a team environment. Flexibility is essential, as scheduling may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Compensation for this role ranges from $16.50 to $17.00 per hour, depending on location and experience.

Joining Denny's as a Host/Hostess offers an opportunity to be part of a renowned brand that holds a significant place in American dining culture. Employees benefit from a supportive working atmosphere that prioritizes respect, honor for diversity, and a dedication to guest satisfaction. Denny's commitment to employee growth and teamwork ensures that every team member has the chance to develop their skills and contribute meaningfully to the restaurant's ongoing success and legacy. Overall, this position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about customer service, thrive in fast-paced environments, and want to be part of a company dedicated to providing memorable dining experiences to guests every day.
