The essential function of the Housekeeper is to uphold cleanliness and safety standards across patient rooms, nursing units, corridors, offices, and other hospital areas. Responsibilities extend beyond cleaning duties to include assisting with patient and specimen transport within the hospital, thereby contributing to operational efficiency and patient care support.

As a Housekeeper at Kent Hospital, the individual will engage directly with hospital staff and patients, providing essential support services that enhance the hospital experience. Duties include comprehensive cleaning tasks such as room discharge cleaning, terminal cleaning of operating rooms, linen and waste removal, and maintaining clear and hazard-free corridors. Additionally, the role involves logistical support functions like transporting patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed, delivering laboratory specimens and reports, moving medical equipment, and ensuring proper maintenance of nursing unit transport devices and supplies. The Housekeeper is also responsible for inventory management, assisting in training new employees, and addressing patient non-clinical needs with professionalism and compassion. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to work evening shifts from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM on alternating weeks
  • Capability to perform physical cleaning and transport tasks

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Experience in a healthcare or hospital environment is an advantage

  • Good interpersonal skills for interacting with staff and patients
  • Ability to operate hospital transport equipment safely
  • Attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness and order
  • Basic ability to assist in employee training and support

Job Duties

  • Clean patients rooms and properly maintain all areas on the Nursing Unit including bed-making support for unoccupied patient beds, disposal of needle boxes, emptying laundry hampers, and ensuring that all corridors are clear of any obstruction
  • Transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher or bed within the hospital
  • Assist patients into and out of automobiles using established procedures when discharging or transporting
  • Place equipment in vehicle as necessary
  • Transport deceased patients to the Hospital Morgue as required
  • Deliver laboratory specimens, x-rays, lab reports, telephone requests, stockroom requisitions and other miscellaneous items and reports necessary to support nursing unit
  • Move equipment on wheels such as hospital beds, carts, cardiac and geriatric chairs and supplies as instructed
  • Transport medical equipment to place of patient discharge
  • Wash and clean all nursing unit transport and medical equipment
  • Maintain area, equipment and supplies in a neat, orderly and safe condition
  • Alert appropriate personnel about any broken equipment or any maintenance needed
  • Clean, wash, mop, vacuum and disinfect each discharge room for new admission
  • Maintain inventory and prepare orders for all non-par stock items on the Nursing Unit
  • Assist in the training of new employees in day to day procedures observing and enforcing all hospital policies, rules and regulations
  • Address and meet all patient non-clinical needs as required
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
