Job Description
The hiring organization is a long-term care facility dedicated to providing high-quality nursing and personal care services to its residents, many of whom require assistance with daily living activities. This facility prioritizes creating a safe, clean, and supportive environment that promotes the dignity, independence, and well-being of every resident. The organization operates with a strong commitment to regulatory compliance, resident safety, and staff professionalism, ensuring that all personnel are trained and equipped to handle the unique needs of a diverse resident population. The facility employs a structured administrative system where clear roles and responsibilities are defined for staff members, fostering teamwork and communication among nursing personnel, supervisors, and support staff. This organized approach allows the facility to consistently deliver compassionate and comprehensive care tailored to individual resident needs.
The role of Personal Care Assistant (PCA) within this facility is critical to maintaining the comfort, safety, and everyday satisfaction of residents. This position involves diverse interpersonal and practical duties, including assisting with personal and environmental care, facilitating residents’ physical safety, and supporting nursing staff in various administrative and clinical tasks. The PCA is responsible for helping residents with mobility, orientation, and basic daily tasks, ensuring that each individual’s environment is clean, orderly, and welcoming. The role requires vigilance, attention to detail, and the ability to respond promptly to residents’ needs and emergencies. Additionally, the position demands compliance with health, safety, and infection control protocols to protect both residents and staff.
The position is designed for individuals with a compassionate nature, strong communication skills, and a dedication to providing respectful and dignified care. The successful candidate must understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality, respecting resident rights, and working collaboratively with the broader care team. While this role does not involve supervisory responsibilities, it is essential to maintain an atmosphere of calm and positivity on the unit through reliable service and proactive support. The Personal Care Assistant also plays an integral part in internal training, safety procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives to uphold the facility’s high standards.
Key functions include reporting any changes in resident conditions or incidents, assisting residents with meals and hydration without feeding them directly, helping with housekeeping and laundry tasks, and managing the orderly storage of resident personal belongings. The role emphasizes safe equipment use, accurate identification of residents, and adherence to established infection control measures. In addition, the PCA supports residents’ emotional well-being by providing reality orientation and responding compassionately to their requests or concerns.
This position typically involves day and potentially evening shifts within a regulated healthcare environment. It necessitates physical stamina for lifting, assisting with mobility, and performing light housekeeping duties. Basic literacy, numeracy, and proficiency with computer software like Microsoft Office are required to effectively perform administrative tasks and communicate within the team. The facility offers an environment conducive to professional growth through orientation and ongoing educational programs, including mandatory safety and infection control training. The Personal Care Assistant is a vital team member who directly influences resident satisfaction and quality of life through diligent, empathetic care and support.
